There will always be some who believe the end of the world will be on May 21, 2011, or in 2012, or in the next century. There is no reason to believe the earth won’t be here two billion years from now, although macro-life will probably have been burned off by the swelling sun as it vaporizes the oceans, leaving only bacteria. Let God worry about the end of the world!

Today in my part of the world the birds are singing, the sun is shining, the kids were happy at school when I dropped them off this morning, and the parish outreach committee was busily packaging food for the homeless. Thanks, AngloCatholic1. I wonder if anyone had done a study of the “apocalyptic mindset” – the mindset that says this world is about to end and the parousia is about to be ushered in. The mindset has been with us almost since the beginning of the Church, and has never been borne out as correct. It will probably last another 2,000 years.All good points, St. Anastasia. It is not supported by scripture and therefore will not happen. Besides, the bible discredits this view that the godly will be taken and the ungodly will be left. Noah and Lot are two examples of the ungodly being destroyed, not left for punishment. Goodness, the bible clearly says that no man knows the hour of His coming.
