Police say the three Satanists ordered the ritual killings of a 19-year-old woman, Chiara Marino, and 18-year-old Fabio Tollis in 1998. Marino was found dead in the woodland areas northwest of Milan, and Tollis, a guitarist with a Milan heavy-metal group, was murdered because of last-minute doubts regarding the “sacrifice” of Marino. Another woman, Mariangela Pezzota, was killed by the sect in January because the group felt she knew too much. Judge Toni Novik, the magistrate in charge of the case, said it was
the first instance of serial killings by Satanists in Italy.

Not a huge fan of their music, but, had a chance to spend the day with the band members once and they were very nice people.

I saw Stryper in concert once. I was amazed at how Michael Sweet could still hit the high notes, unlike Geoff Tate when I had seen Queensryche in concert a few years before. It’s the clean Christian living. 🙂

I think no matter whate style is it - ‘chrisrian’ or not. It’s all about music, lyrics and feelings.
P.S. Vanguard also good band.

death metal…black metal. These genres tend to be less about the lyrics
The lyrics are most definitely one of the defining characteristics of black and death metal. The term “black metal,” along with the musical characteristics, indicates lyrical content involving Satanism (not just LaVeyan Satanism but sometimes actual theistic Satanism), occultism, paganism, nihilism, and hatred/rejection of Christianity. “Death metal” often includes all of that but is more focused on death and murder, along with the musical characteristics.

I know all this because I got into this stuff heavily during middle and high school when it was starting to come up out of the underground, which for me was '92-'98, and continued to listen to it for many years afterward. The rank nihilism and rejection of normality caused me a lot of personal and mental problems that I was able to (mostly) solve after moving away from that and back towards the RCC. Take my advice and avoid that stuff like the plague.

Wow, I didn’t expect to see this year-old thread re-open.

@Grizzly1, congrats on making a spiritually healthy course-correction! I’ve mostly avoided black and death metal because I can’t stand the vocals or the general lyrical/thematic content, but I would point out that there are Christian bands in each genre, so those who specifically like the musical style can enjoy it while avoiding the “occultism, paganism, nihilism, and hatred/rejection of Christianity.”

I give the Christian death/black metal bands a lot of credit. I had the good fortune to work (once, long ago) with Crimson Moonlight, Crimson Thorn and Frost Like Ashes. They were out spreading the Word in a corner of the world that needs it and is not ministered to by mainstream Christian channels (and, probably, most bands in the genre don’t want them there).

Indeed! Not sure what prompted the re-opening, but I’ll take it. 🙂

Very good point. There are definitely corners of the metal subculture that are in need of evangelization.
