Atheists have reported Christian Memes, one of the best pages on FB because they are offended bu it. The site only makes inoffensive memes that teach the faith (granted they’ve made memes about the rapture, but we can overlook that, it’s not relevant to this discussion) Meanwhile, FB pages made by atheists with titles such as “The Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted” are given free reign. As Chuck D said, fight the power! I don’t know how, but something has to be done! FB is for everyone, atheists! We have just as much right to be here as you do! Once again you show just how “tolerant” you are!

I don’t see any news story on this.
Can you give more information? Is this a specific page that has been complained about, or a specific meme that someone or more than one person has found offensive?
How do you know it was “atheists” who reported this page as offensive? Did some sort of group make a report?

In a closed-door session with shareholders on Tuesday, Facebook executives wheeled out a set of new rules which, when implemented later this year, will ban their users from creating status updates and image posts related in any way to religion, while also vowing to disband groups and take down pages with religious goals or affiliations.
Facebook will introduce their new rules in three waves. The first will see religiously-themed pages being removed, as well as religious groups, private or otherwise, being disbanded. The second wave will prohibit the posting, sharing, and general distribution of religious images and memes; images asking Facebook users to pray, or encouraging them to believe in one or any religion, will be banned, with warning messages and even account suspensions for those who repeatedly attempt to violate the rule.

The third and biggest wave, which is due to come near the end of the year, will impact regular Facebook users themselves, with new filters which will seek out status updates that use “religious keywords,” such as “Jesus,” “prayer,” “Church,” or “God.” Facebook staffers will read flagged status updates to determine whether they should be removed or not, with warning messages and suspensions going out to those who violate the rule.

The new anti-religion rules come after several waves of protests from atheist and agnostic groups, who claim user-created religious content is offensive to them and, as one group put it, “promotes generation after generation of forceful indoctrination into their belief systems, which we do not want our children exposed to.”
“For years, religious groups have been allowed to spread their propaganda on Facebook and other social media sites freely, so this is a huge win for thinking people everywhere,” says Amber Wallace, founder of the American Atheist Coalition, the group that led the charge on the new Facebook changes. “Religion is fraudulent in nature. I consider this a win not for atheists, but for humans of free will everywhere. A life without religious dogma is definitely a life worth living.”

Is Facebook planning to ban religious content? No

The article was originally published several months ago on a website called the National Report; other versions have circulated as Facebook memes…

This would be a pretty big deal if it were true, but there’s a problem: The National Report is a fake news site.

The website, established in 2013, once included a disclaimer making that point clear.

The disclaimer has since been removed, but was archived by urban-legend investigation site Snopes.com. It said, in part, “All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news. Any resemblance to the truth is purely coincidental.”

I did a bit of further searching after I posted the initial article…the appearance of the site seemed to be rather Republican/conservative/right-wing oriented, so I decided to see if I could find a more neutral site, or one that might have fewer dogs in the race.

It seems I got Poe’d.

I no longer have a Facebook, but I do occasionally check the Catholic Memes page and this is how I found out. What was the offending post that did them in?

You wouldn’t see this sort of thing in the news. It was an unnamed group. I saw it on the Catholic Memes FB page. The issue is now resolved and it’s back.

One of the reasons I initially would have known it was fake is because it attacked all religious posts. The big “z” would never make himself target number one for the Islamic terrorists.

I would love to see the atheists attack the fastest growing religion in Europe right now and say about Muhammad the same things they say about Mary…

This hoax pops up from time to time. Facebook has NO plans to ban religous content, memes etc.
I know people believe it that’s why it keeps popping up. This fake story seems to recycle every 2 years or so…

And for future reference National Reporter is a fake news/satire site.

That “Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted” page is disgusting and should be removed permanently. I’m so sick of the “offensiveness” being so biased and one-sided. Can’t they really see how they are? When they whine “intolerance” they’re really looking in a mirror at their own reflection. I think, deep down, they know they’re really referring to themselves. Why don’t they practice what they preach.

A former friend reported me for posting “hate speech.” I had posted something completely inoffensive about loving the fact that one of my daughters had received First Communion or something along those lines. My account was suspended for about half a day while they allegedly investigated it. In response, I started reporting him for his blatant hate speech against Christians and conservatives. He never received a suspension and the responses I got all said that his posts didn’t violate their terms of service regarding hate speech, similar to the response I got when I reported the “Virgin Mary Should’ve Aborted” page.

I do have an atheist friend who regularly reports religious pages in an effort to get them shut down. He’s an equal opportunity hater and has reported Muslim pages as well (including a few really awful pages that should be shut down). To the best of my knowledge, none of his efforts have succeeded so far.

Facebook truly is biased. It is like they are a Soviet propaganda bureau.
