Christian Metal?

@Mortification Doesn’t that seem a little hypocritical for someone in such a blatant satanic band to be producing a christian record?

@WoundedIcon “Catholicky” I never really thought about it that way. Music with chanting choirs do have kind of a churchy feel. However, I would argue that bands like Dimmu Borgir do this on purpose, but with the intent on perverting it.

It’s a shame though, because that sound is amazing. I can imagine how that dark epic choir filled music with high pitched vocals can be used for good, and play up the darkness in such a way that the world is in darkness, and we are fighting it. Darkness being the enemy here. (Maybe I’m thinking a little deep here)

Actually, how can I have forgotten about Renascent? They have a very dark sound, with some symphonic elements to it. And they’re Christian! I would actually consider them Melodic Death Metal rather than Black Metal though.
I don’t think that Dimmu Borgir dude was being hypocritical. I think he was trying to ruin the band, since, as my guitar teacher says, there are pigs in the music business (he knows). In the music business, there is the music and the business. As a producer, the Borgir dude was probably being a pig to the Christian band (I mean, he’s also a satanist). The business part likes to control the music part with contracts and things like that. He probably gave them limited freedom or some sort of business oppresiveness against musicians. He probably was pressuring them into breaking apart.------Just a speculation; I’m not trying to make a conspiracy theory or anything.

And about how Borgir sounds churchy and Catholicky, I agree that they probably do try to sound like that. According to dictionary.com, satanism perverts Catholic** rituals, so they probably thought perverting Catholic-like music by adding black metal stuff to it was a good idea (yes, I found the former on Dictionary.com; you can even look up stuff about historical figures, countries, and other religions, LOL).

I just have to say, I wan’t to beat Dimmu Borgir, Decapitated, Suicide Silence, White Chapel, and other extreme metal bands with evil messages by being more brutal sounding when I start my band (sadly, my friend only started guitar 6 months ago and we disagree on musical composition, and I can’t find other people to play with; maybe my Parish has Catholic metal musicians).

The only type of metal where the vast majority of bands are satanic is black metal. There is some death metal that is satanic, but most of it focuses more on gory and violent lyrics, with the exception of blackened death metal (since it’s death metal with black metal elements). Melodic death metal usually doesn’t focus on religion, with the exceptions of At the Gates and Arch Enemy.

I love metal, but pretty much confine myself to power metal and NWOBHM.
