How can we achieve christian unity like that of the Father and the Son? Who or what do you think will be the unifying factor aside from our Lord Jesus Christ?

like that of the Father and the Son?
Hi

I think you have forgotten the Holy Ghost, the Catholics believe in. Havn’t you?

I love Jesus and Mary as i do love Buddha and Krishna

Thanks

There can be no unity outside the Catholic Church.

Only a central source for determining the truth with regard to faith and morals can provide unity.

Jesus understood this, which is why he established a hierarchy.

Finally I agree with you Paarsurrey,

Yes it is God which guides the church which can unify us by His teachings and we should receive the Blessed Sacrament as He had requested.

No not really, I know the Trinity. I’m actually referring to John 17:11…so that they maybe one as we are one.

It really depends on us. There are so many different denominations of Christianity, it’s insane! And it’s almost difficult to really unite when we are at disagreements with each other for little (almost unimportant) details.

Most people are right, though. Love, patience, and sacrifice are the keys.

If all the groups that say they’re Christian got together and threw out every doctrine any of them disagrees with, we’d have:
There’s a God.
God is good.
And someday things will be better for at least some people.
I can’t think of any other shared doctrines.
But since Christianity means much more than that, we do need standards. The Church predates all these other groups and can point to historic backing for doctrines. The Church has the right to set the standards.

It does seem rather barebones, doesn’t it. I suppose you might add that there was a guy named Jesus who said some important things. If you lump Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses in there, I think that’s all we could share. Not really much substance there.

In fact, though Christian Scientists say they’re Christian, Mary Baker Eddy suggested Jesus is just an idea who walked the earth rather than a guy, though it was vague. Some interpret this to mean he didn’t really exist, others to mean he did and does but was never really in the flesh, it only looked like it, others that he was here in the flesh but that the flesh isn’t important. I used to live with two roommates, a fringe-science fan and a Chrstian Scientist, who discussed these ideas a lot.

Hi

May be in other words they seemed to say the Catholic Jesus was only mythical, not historical or real, in my opinion.

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna

Thanks

There’s got to be a uniting factor, a person, an event, or a thing. Jesus prayed that we may be one as the He and the Father are one.

You forgot about Jesus Christ. All Christians have him in common.

Within mainstream Christianity, isn’t Jesus the unifying factor? Isn’t the fact, that almost all believe he died so our sins could be forgiven a unifying event or thing? Isn’t the fact, that mainstream Christianity believes in the Resurrection a unifying concept?

While the many different Christian denominations have different methods of worship, they most all have the main tenets of Christianity in common.

IMO, this is a common problem within Christianity, we bicker among ourselves about the differences, but rarely focus on what we all have in common.

One simple word…RESPECT

Christians are united in Christ and that is true, but In my opinion that is not the kind of unity our Lord Jesus prayed. He put a qualifier… as we are one. He said that there will be one sheperd and one flock.

Hi

I would like a United Christendom; not with compromise but with peaceful dialogue and Truth. I think Truth is the unifying and binding factor; let truth work in Christianity for a United Christendom. It suits us Ahmadis; I can play a role, if you ever need a helping hand for this purpose.

I love Jesus and Mary as I do love Buddha and Krishna

Thanks
