FYI, Catholics are Christians. Jesus Christ’s Church is the Catholic Church. The other churches broke away from the Catholic Church, the one true church, for one reason or another.
All who call themselves Christians need to come back to the Catholic Church. You will be welcomed! 🙏🙏🙏

I use both Catholic and Christian to describe myself and our faith, after all Catholic is where the Christian faith came from and the Christian faith is where the Catholic faith came from. We are the OG Christian’s, lol. Sometimes I call myself Catholic Christian.

In my opinion, either way is fine. However if you are doing a blog to help educate other Christian faith communities about our Catholic faith or if there will be dialogue between Protestants and Catholics then I would suggest that you make it clear that we are Christians. So that way it doesn’t continue the myth, some Protestants hold, that Catholics are not Christians. That is my advice, take it as you will. 🙂

That’s pretty much how I was raised and have always identified as “Christian”. I grew up believing we’re all Christians doing the best we can to get to Heaven the way we know how.

I didn’t even know or realize there was such a divide between Catholics and non-Catholics until I started going to Mass with my wife and when we were starting the process of getting married.

I usually say ‘Catholic’ for clarity’s sake, but ‘Christian’ is completely fine of course.

Christian was the word first used in the first century to describe the followers of Jesus, at first in Antioch and later throughout the known world. Catholic was the word first used after the first Council of Nicaea to distinguish Christians from followers of the Arian heresy. Christianity is the religion based upon the life and teaching of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, the word has been misappropriated by American Calvinists who seem to prefer the first few chapters of Genesis to anything Jesus said or did.

I believe you maybe right about that, from my experience anyway. However only one church, and the Orthodox can trace their roots all the way back in an unbroken succession to the Church started by Jesus with St Peter as the head.

Catholics are Christians. We are the first Christians. Own it. Don’t let other denominations take that from you.

I am starting a blog and want to publicly identify as “Christian”.
If that’s what you want to do, go ahead! Maybe you can covertly promote Catholic teachings if they assume you’re not Catholic 😉

Absolutely, and we are born again Christians too as born again as ‘the born again christians’ But for the right biblical reasons.

Well technically in regards to the Orthodox, the churches broke away from each other.

The first time the word “Christian” came about was from the same Saint who first used the word “Catholic”. St Ignatius of Antioch. Since the time of St Ignatius there’s been a Schism that occurred that divided the Church by East West due to the fall of the Roman Empire, and the language difference between Latin and Greek. The great Reformation of the Church of the 16th Century occurred because of Martin Luther who decided everyone received salvation with faith alone, thus he attempted to add the word “Alone” to the bible, as well as remove 7 books of the bible.

Moral of the story, Catholics are Christians. Better yet, Catholics are ‘Universal’ Christians.

@Mary67

Thanks for asking this question as a young person who is converting to the Catholic church. This is something I have been pondering.
