I have several posters who call themselves CHRISTIAN with no qaulifiers, no religion and no info about denomination. But I don’t belive any one can honestly can do that.

We all believe differently, so how can we all claim that we are all the same?

I was raised in a sect that called themselves Christian only but really thinks they are the only Christians to exist. they call themselves ‘undenominational’.
What brought this to my mind was a thread about Nativity. The Undenonintial sect had no holidays. They said they could not do anything unless the bible ordered it.

I have a pet golden retriever. You could also say that I just have a retriever. Or that I have a dog. Or I have a pet. All of them are true and 100% honest.

The same way a Baptist/Catholic/Lutheran can also claim to be a Christian.

No one claimed they were all the same. Just like no one claimed my retriever is the same as a great dame, but they are both still dogs.

By the grace of God I am a Christian, by preference I am a ___________.

😃 This reminds me of the song "There is nothing like a dame!!! 😃

Some Protestants will claim that Catholics are not Christian.

Some Protestants will claim that Catholics are not Christian.
Which is a little unfair because Catholics will always claim that Protestants and Orthodox are Christian. I am a Catholic Christian.

Clarification needed if i may Adam…

The Catholic church will always claim that Protestants and Orthodox are Christian. While some Catholics may in fact claim otherwise they can always be set straight by the teachings of their own church, a paradigm not equal in all of Protestantism. Not sure how this is dealt with in the Orthodox church.

Peace!!!

I’m one that does that, for me it comes from the way that I was raised and the Church that I was raised in.

This is how I explain it to my mother in law: we don’t see Catholics, Lutherans, Pentecostals, ect… we see everyone as brothers and sisters in Christ. To us, there’s no denomination, just we’re all Christians and that’s how I label myself.

I don’t think it is necessary to create labels and divisions within Christianity. Those who follow Christ are Christians. Why make it more complicated than that? No 2 people are going to agree on everything, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are brothers and sisters in Christ.

I would love to hear how you describe the early church heresies to your children or to anyone trying to understand.😃

Peace!!!

I’m not a member of any organized Christian Church, what would I call myself? I’d say nondenominational, but now that’s a denomination. lol I also believe in the family of Christians, anyone in Him is a Christian. So, that’s the largest basket when labeling. Catholics are Christian, Orthodox are Christian, Protestants are Christian. I’m a Christian, that is my identity first and foremost.

Why would he or anyone want or need to do that? Judge not…

When I was on the isaland out of ability to attend any church but still very full of faith, somone in an internet forum referred to me as "unchurched. "

She was a fairly new Catholic convert.

I prefer the term Christian but here in Ireland that would cause issues .

I think some dames are greater than others. 👍

I label myself on these forums as Christian/Methodist because I consider ‘Christian’ to be the most important part, and Methodist serves as a point of reference for those who prefer more specificity as to which Christian denomination I belong.

However, I have no trouble with those who label themselves as ‘Christian’. To me, that is akin to someone calling in to *Catholic Answers Live * and not providing a specific first name, so the host greets them as ‘Anonymous’ but they still get to ask their questions and make their points. From their questions and comments, most people have an idea as to what kind of background these people have. Sometimes, “Anonymous” asks some pretty darn good questions, or at least some of the same ones I had/have.

I am Catholic because I follow the faith and devotion of Catholic leaders. Disciples of Jesus were first called Disciples of Jesus, and the Apostles were given His authority. Then they were called Christians. Then the Church begat the name Catholic. I receive the Communion of Christ by the hands of Catholic ordained disciples of Jesus. We strive to be good Christians and to have brotherly love to those who profess the tenants of our faith. These are fundamentally expressed in the Niceness Creed, drawn from Scripture and Tradition, and Confirmed and defined through the Magisterium.

Peace to all who love Jesus and keep His commandments, Blessings to those who do not know Him, and compassion to those who struggle in sin.
