After returning to the Church, and becoming a full Catholic, I have noticed in work environments, on the web, etc… that people love to accuse most Christians of being hypocrites.

Assuming that someone trys to live a good Christian life, we all make mistakes at times, and try to correct those issues and walk with Christ. But when we fall on an issue, it seems we are pointed out as hypocrites.

Yesterday, one of my Co-Workers was talking to me, and another CO-Worker talking about his brother having intercourse with a girl who was Christian, (well as he put it “Jesus Freak”) and put it in away saying… so much for her being a Christian and following what the bible says.

Does anyone else feel this way, or see this as well.

I think we all do. Sadly, we’re all subject to the fall. As such we all sin and there is no one who does good, not even one. (Ps. 14:3) All we can do is live a life of repentance and strive to live in obedience.

The truly sad part is that people use man’s sin nature as an excuse to justify their unbelief with statements like crying hypocrisy and, in the same breath, declaring themselves “basically a good person” (Isaiah disagrees in 64:6). However, I ask, what are they living for if not for themselves? Is selfishness good? No, it’s not. That is a hypocrisy.

Christians not being Christian is the problem. It brings scorn and mocking and rightly so. But worst of all, the one who is mocked is Jesus.

God it’s people like that I hate; ready to pounce on Christians for sinning when they probably do so without a second thought, and feeling morally superior because of it.

Edit: Oh and to answer your question, yes Christians can be hypocrites because here’s a secret THEY’RE HUMAN!

There are many people who will say that they are Christian, but then they will act in ways that are contrary to Christ’s teaching. Our Lord even mentions this in the Bible when he quotes Isaiah, saying, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.”

The only thing that you can do is to continue being a good Christian and follow the teaching of the Church. People may mock you and accuse you of being a hypocrite, but this is inevitable. As our Lord says, “If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they malign those of his household.”

Of course there are hypocritical Christians. Always have been, always will be.

But this argument of hypocrisy has a new twist in the last few decades. In this age of believing in nothing, or only themselves, they can’t be accused of being a hypocrite if they have no moral principals. But really, is that any better than a hypocrite?

And when we do fall and sin we can love and forgive each other as Christians, remembering no one is good, only God. But people like you are talking about love and forgive no one. They will call us intolerent but they have tolerence for no one, and the least for Christians.
