Christians are the ones being discriminated against!

I’m Catholic and I have never felt discriminated against.
That’s probably because you support liberal ideals. Liberals and atheists probably say to themselves “Meh…that ringil dude may be Catholic, and that’s very backwards, but we won’t tell him so much because he supports the democrats…so…eh, he’s alright.”

Having that D associated with you allows you a pretty wide latitude.

I am sorry I don’t agree that there is a lot of bashing and hatred towards Christians in the western world - I have seen plenty of Christian marches, and I myself have been on three large processions of the Blessed Sacrament this year through the streets of London, and they passed off without incident. In fact, there was even a round of applause by the onlookers when we sang the Salve Regina.
The problem comes in when Christians stand up for their beliefs in the political realm.

Big difference between that and freedom of worship.

The reality is that most secular-progressives don’t mind religious or conservatives, as long as they are a hearty 38% of the populace and are content to sit in the backseat and basically keep their mouths shut, to paraphrase El Rushbo.

I have many liberal friends and they all, or most of them know I am pro-life. This includes atheists, agnostics, a Buddhist, and a Jew.

We have lively and spirited discussions. I enjoy speaking with them.

I generally don’t enjoy conversations with Right Wing Christians- especially Evangelicals (I have some in the family) because I see a lack of subtlety of though. THey come at you like a mac truck and there is no where to really go with the dialogue. Very bland conversationalists.

Things shut down pretty quickly.

Just a few thoughts on stuff I experienced as an atheist:
  • I had one job where the hiring manager made a point of hiring “good Christian workers” on the grounds that non-Christians were lazy. I kept my mouth shut and let him think that I was Christian (my records listed Christian schools), because nowhere else was hiring and I desperately needed the money.
  • Had innumerable problems with family and friends assuming I was now immoral and untrustworthy and refusing to associate with me, despite never actually doing anything to offend them.
  • Talked to some people who, when I mentioned that someone else was an atheist (they didn’t know about me), promptly became indignant and told me off for “spreading nasty rumors.” Generally, saying “so-and-so is an atheist” was treated as if I’d just said “so-and-so is on drugs.”
My biggest problem was that people generally assumed a non-Christian would not be a good employee, friend, or family member. People were more suspicious that I would steal or lie, even when some of the Christians around me were caught doing those things. It gets tiring very fast.

I’ve been thinking about this for a very long time. We Christians are always being bashed and hated upon because we don’t agree with certain practices, namely abortion and gay marriage. Take homosexuals. Here in Canada, we have one of the largest Pride parades in the world, which takes place in Toronto. Over a million people go to the streets and watch this circus parade and love it. But when we Christians have the idea of having a Christian Pride parade, we’re bashed because it apparently promotes hate towards homosexuals. Like what type of world are we living in when some people, like Christians can’t show pride in their faith publicly? We say one simple thing like homosexual marriage isn’t biblical and wrong and yet are bashed and hated upon. But when homosexuals say something like Christians are non-loving monsters, no one says anything! I am really sick of this homosexual agenda that keeps on putting more and more hate on us Christians. We as Christians have the right to stand up for our beliefs and showcase our beliefs to the world, and we shouldn’t let this small minority of people put us down. Even normal people bash us and it needs to stop!

We’re not the ones that are being discriminatory it’s the homosexuals, the pro-abortionists and the atheists who are promoting hate.

Sorry for this rant, I am just getting sick and tired of being bashed like so many other Christians about our faith and beliefs.
I completely agree with you. I’m a homosexual who reverted to the Catholic faith after my eyes were opened to the truth of the Catholic Church. I used to go the Toronto Pride Parades with my gay friends, and wholeheartedly supported the gay rights movement. I used to call the Church closed-minded, intolerant, old-fashioned, behind the times, bigoted, and hateful towards gays and lesbians. Of course, that isn’t true at all! In spite of being an advocate for gay rights, I never got myself into a same-sex relationship or engaged in any sexual activity. Deep down inside, I knew it was inherently wrong. I truly believe it was the Lord who preserved my purity all those years.

Just the other day, I came across a bunch of photos I took of my gay friends and I when we went to the Pride Parade in Toronto back in 2005. Looking at those pictures now I can’t help but feel disgusted and ashamed at myself that I skipped Sunday mass with my family to attend something like this (Pride is on a Sunday in Toronto), and how evil the gay rights movement really is underneath that sparkling, rainbow-colored surface.

I welcome their hatred. If they react so violently it’s because we’re doing something right. Christ said if we are hated, it is because He was hated first. And rightly so. No one on earth has ever been persecuted more than Catholic Christians. That’s simple fact. And while it’s sad, it’s not surprising. We have the real presence of Christ. We have a valid Church. The Lord is with us, as we are with Him. Satan will throw the entire world at us to break as many of us away from Christ and His Church as possible.

This is a terrible argument. I hate the creeps that leer at me on the bus or out walking too, does that mean they’re doing something right?
