we must never forget that whether a muslim dies or a christian dies or a jew dies…a life is a life. a christian dying in palestine is just as sad as a muslim dying in palestine and vice versa. We watch the news and we hear numbers almost every day of palestinians dying yet we do not seem to connect. 5 palestinian children died today and another 7 palestinians were injured in an israeli incursion. We always hear that don’t we? They are numbers and we never know anything about them…
However if an Israeli dies it is a different story: An Israeli died today in a suicide blast…His name was Levi Lieberman and he was a good man. From then we see the funeral ceremonies and what his aspirations were, what his job was and who his relatives were and how he lived his life.
Has anybody noticed that?
It’s as if the 5 or so palestinians that died have no name-no aspirations and we know little about them…they just join the “number” of the dead and soon they fade away from our memory. Every now and then during a large attack (such as the one that killed 1,300 palestinians on december last year) we hear a few stories of the dead palestinians…
but it is just not the same.
The terrorist is always to blame, but the cause of him becoming what he is-is never blamed. He is a suicide bomber who is labelled as a palestinian terrorist…we never hear his story. We never hear that his family was torn down and separated-we never hear that his wife was raped-we never hear that he lost his home-we never hear that he was humiliated. We never hear anything. We just hear that this palestinian “terrorist” blew up a bus or killed somebody and then we listen to the Israeli whose life was lost (whether innocent or guilty…sadly enough he was most probably innocent as well). Then the vicious cycle begins again.
I hope one day, there can be peace all over the world and that all the violence and bloodshed can stop.
…I think we can all say ameen to that
