But until we get away from,“My church is better than your church,” or “My church is the only one that has the full deposit of faith,”
That’s the only way the Body of Christ can be edified and increased. You think that the Body of Christ is all claiming discipleship to Christ. I think that the Body of Christ is the original Church of Christ that cannot be divided in faith, and therefore does not include all claiming discipleship to Christ.
Did He want us ALL to be catholic, or Muslim, or does He want us all to love each other and promote unity!
Yes, He does want us to all be of one faith. And that is the only way we will really be united. So the only way to really promote unity is to promote the one faith that was delivered to the Apostles.

So then Jesus wants us ALL to be catholic?

Agiosotheos is ORTHODOX, not in union with Rome.

Does this board promote Catholic/Protestant tunnel vision or something…? 🤷

i think that a lot of protestants could not bear the name catholic attatched to them because of the burdan they would have to carry. it aint easy to be catholic. being the most ridiculed and most misunderstood, misquoted, torn down, lied about, trampled on, oh im sorry i get carried away sometimes. anyway you get the point persecuted

seems like the only time there is unity is at a funeral. we cant even get together to fight issues like abortion. imagine how much power we would have if we got together on some of the social issues we face everyday. there was a time when gvt feard the church now it is reversed.

Someone who has done quite a lot of study in Christology and has found that quite a lot of Christian groups do not have sufficiently orthodox Christologies.

Sure I do.

That’s unfortunate. I did not mean to suggest that you were not sincere, just that you are probably mistaken in your understanding of who Jesus is.
Judgement is not up to us its up to God. I’m going to discuss things with a person who believes they have the right to judge others. May God have mercy on you Good bye.

What I am saying is that unity entails agreement in fundamental belief, yes.

Because we do not agree on fundamental issues. Orthodox do not believe in the primacy of the Pope, for instance. Protestants often do not believe in intercession, and have for the most part completely thrown out any notion of apostolicity or tradition. How can such differences exist in a state of unity (agreement)? They can’t.

Oh, I beg to differ…!

That is wonderful. May God bless you for your work.

“United in unity”, huh? I have to admit, this conversation is starting to make me angry in angriness… 😃

Why would you? How would that help the homeless?

No one is saying that we cannot work together on humanitarian projects. This is not unity of faith, however. The title of this thread is “Christians, stop this beckering and put aside your difference, so we can be one faith” (emphasis mine). To unify in this manner, we need to be in agreement as to what is part of the faith and what is not. The Orthodox do not believe that things like Papal supremacy and infallibility, purgatory, or the Immaculate Conception are part of the faith (or, at the very least, they ought not to be dogmatically defined). Catholics obviously do believe that these things are part of the faith. As long as such disagreements (and more) exist, we remain in disunity, even as we may meet in various extra-ecclesiastical capacities (humanitarian projects, etc).
I respectfully disagree with you.

Of course I believe in uniting for pan Christian goals, as indeed has happened with the World Council of Churches, however that is quite different than “unity” for if we accept that it is simply moving towards common goals together, we already have it.

As for those horrible things happening to Christians in the United States, I’m Orthodox, although I didn’t live them, we have seen far worse in very recent memory. Why do you need to have the Ten Commandments on display? If you feel the need you can preach them regardless, who cares if someone calls it a holiday tree? The tree isn’t what Christmas is about. Why do you need a vanity license plate on your car which says those things when you can put a bumper sticker on that says the very same thing?
These matters are quite triffling when you consider what Christians go through throughout the world. I know a woman whose mother had to kidnap her to take her to be baptized in secret, my patron saint nearly became a martyr except that he managed to convert his tormentors (And he died less than a century ago). St. Tikhon became a passion bearer (and possibly a martyr) because he refused to supplicate himself to the Bolsheviks.
You’ll have to excuse me if I don’t get upset over trifling matters. Christians in North America and Western Europe don’t know how good they have it.
Well sorry you don’t get upset over trifling matters but little matters build up to big matters.
We don’t want to become like the other countries or have the same situation they have.
See ya

Please.

Like I pointed out, cooperation is not the same as full unity.

Actually, the only judgment that God reserves exclusively for Himself is the judgment of a person’s eternal fate.

American society, sure, but I figure most people here would be more religiously literate than the average American, given the site’s content.
It requires more than a little more religious literacy than the average American for the Protestant/Catholic blinders to come off. Many of those in the U.S. who spend more time on religion than the average still are ignorant to the matter, mostly because it is a rather particular matter that requires quite a lot of study to come across in the American religious atmosphere.

[What do you mean by “Catholic”?
]

Well, benedict says that as soon as all of the noncatholics come back to the fold, we wil have unity:confused: I imagine he means the catholic fold; you know the people claiming to be the on and only true church?
