Psalm 105:14, 39 (Original Douay-Rheims, Psalm 106 in KJV) seems reasonably negative towards random sex, putting it on the same level as idolatry and child-sacrifice, but what do I know?

The Challoner Psalm 105:14 oddly weakens the meaning (changing the word in the ODR “concupiscence” to “desire”. The KJV is much closer to ODR using the word “lusted”). Challoner DR is even worse for 105:39 changing ODR “fornication” to “went aside”, again KJV is much closer to ODR using “a whoring”.

105:14 is more directly on point but you’ll note the following from 105:37-39 makes it clear that fornication is bad thing, generally.

I quote with spelling corrections and word meanings in brackets if necessary (ODR)

105:37-39 “And they immolated their sons and daughters to devils. And they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and daughters, which they sacrificed to the sculptils [idols] of Chanaan. And the land was infected with blood, and was contaminated in their works, and they did fornicate in their inventions.”

Now is this referring to Ancient Israel or Modern America? You decide.

I am frustrated when Christians start word games and claim since the Bible didn’t specifically say it, define it, it is permissible. Porneia covers a wide range of sexual irregularities. If there are a million sexual irregularities, one surely can’t expect the Bible list out every single one of them? I believe child sex, pornography and variants of these weren’t specifically mentioned but I don’t think God would want you to play word games with HIM. It put their souls in peril and they justify and bluff to no one but themselves when they permit themselves to engage in irregular sex. Sex were meant for procreation and not pleasure and I am pretty confident those engaging in fornication didn’t have procreation in mind. Which pretty much narrows it down to lust.

Yes I think it’s ridiculous too, thus I was a little flippant with the “what do I know” comment. But I’m serious about the Ancient Israel or Modern America comment. Pretty eerie to read about holocausts of children in Psalm 105/106 and then think, wait a minute, Planned Parenthood or its agents are burning aborted children everyday.

The word porneia like many ancient words have a broad meaning. It means any illicit sexual act outside of marriage. This includes adultery, fornication, incest, sex with prostitutes, and animals etc.

The same word is used in MT 5:32. "whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of , causeth her to commit adultery"Note: You do not find that word in the parallel passages (Lk 16:18 and Mk 10:11). Many commentators translate it as adultery or fornication, and therefore allow for divorce. The better translation would be incest or some form of an illicit union. Pagans are to be joining the Church of God and marriage between brother and sister etc were frowned upon but not forbidden.
