This probably sounds stupid, but I think it is a legitimate question.
Why are there many Christians who do bad things?
Why is there so much poverty, and suffering in the world?
.

Because Christians are human and humans are fallible.

Well, how many Christians do you think should be doing bad things, and why do you pick that number? How much poverty and suffering do you think there should be, and why/

Christians do bad things because they are fully human and humans sometimes do bad things and make bad choices.

Poverty and suffering have entered into the world because of the sinful nature of man (humanity if you are of the politically correct crowd).

God allows human suffering in various forms to happen in order to bring about a greater good. Probably the best example of this was Christ’s crucifixion. God allowed His Son to be executed by death on a cross (essentially deicide) in order to bring about salvation of all human beings. God could have chosen other ways, but what better way can you think of to really get someone’s attention than through suffering? How many people pray when things are going rough compared to when everything is going well? In all honesty, I bet the number of folks who turn to God when times are tough is much greater than it is when everything is going well.

Poverty and suffering comes from the sinful nature of man.
As to your question: “Why are there many Christians who do bad things?” it’s because God gives us “free Choice” We do bad things because we choose not to follow the will of God.

When we take our eyes off of God and start trusting in ourselves and giving into our selfish desires we fail him, ourselves and others. Christians are under constant attack because we take a stand for Christ, and the devil loves nothing better than to see Christians fail.

I’d also like to hear what bad things you are talking about. Can you be more specific?
Why is there so much poverty, and suffering in the world?

Because the people responsible for those in poverty don’t do the will of God and help them. We suffer because original sin robbed us of the life of God we were supposed to have. Now we are subject to disease and death, to the sinful acts of ourselves and others, with these comes suffering.

Our fallen nature and our scar from original sin actually gives us a TENDENCY to sin, rather than to do good. It’s by the grace of Christ’s presence in the sacraments that we can change that tendency, which is why it is so important to receive reconciliation and Holy Communion OFTEN. Tools for the Herculean task of getting to Heaven.

What do you mean by “so many”? There are Christians who do bad things for the same reason that Jews, Muslims, etc. do bad things - Satan working in the world.

Why is there so much poverty and suffering? It has been said above: Original sin, man’s rejection of God, etc.

Stop for a second and ask yourself this though: How much poverty and suffering would there be in the world if there were NO Christians? The Catholic Church, last time I looked at the figures, does more to help the poor and end suffering than any other organization or government in the world.

If every Christian did nothing bad from now on, there would still be poverty and suffering in the world, which is why we all need to care each day.
