Just when I thought things were at their worst! Now these people can’t celebrate 4th of July! Hearing this, you would have thought that the person who did this was on crack. How anti-American can you get!

I suppose next we’ll be seeing the town this is in changing their name. It most certainly is a reference to Christianity.

I fi went to saudi arabia, i wouldnt expect to be ablt to find BLT’s readilly available. We cant surrender our culture just because some people are not of our culture. WE HAVE A CULTURE!!! ITS HISTORICAL!!!

I am getting the impression that the Catholic League is bored and looking for things to do. They had to scrounge pretty hard to find offense in the CSU-Sacramento holiday policy.

No, the Fourth of July is not a religious holiday. But having a uniform policy of “no holiday decorations” does simplify things. Its not as if most people decorate for the Fourth of July anyways.

Calling the new policy a ban on the Fourth of July really requires a stretch of the imagination.

Let me see if I have this right. In the following statement, what is wrong with the 2 statements in bold (when taken together):

“With the new year, we will now celebrate the seasons and holiday without decorations in the public areas and holidays. This is a secular university and we are a public service area that has a diverse employee and student populations [sic] even in our private offices. In order to avoid offending someone else, we will not display celebratory reminders. This specifically includes Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, Valentines, 4th of July, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter, off the top of the list [my emphasis]. I, for one, am the worst offender and celebrant. Time has come to recognize that religious discrimination, as well as ethnic insensitivity to certain holidays, is forbidden. I am sorry if this offends anyone, but it is time to start the new year differently.”

Is it just me or is this and indications that there isn’t much “thinking” going on here?

Well, at least we know she will be at work, without extra pay, on these days since she doesn’t need them off since she doesn’t celebrate them. It will be kind of hard to not celebrate the 4th of July - every calendar in the world would need changed - LOL!

I just don’t get it – how does displaying holiday decorations (in one’s office, for example) constitute “religious discrimination”?

Personally, I have never felt offended by the display of decorations from other religions’ holidays.

What’s next, will her employees be forbidden to eat cherries on Washington’s birthday?

On Arbor Day, will she demand that all the trees on the campus be cut down? 😉

I can tell you that not much thought went into that statement.

This sometimes makes me wonder – what if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists?

We serve democracy? I thought democracy served us? (Like: Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.)
