Hi, I know you must fast on the Christmas Vigil (yesterday), I was wondering if we are supposed to on Christmas Eve? Also Merry Christmas everybody,

Begin your fast now.
Make a good sacramental confession.
Receive Holy Communion anytime after midnight.

🙂

I was already fasting as I wasn’t sure. Also I don’t think one would need to make a confession if you have no idea its actually a fast day but begin when they find out. Thanks for posting and Merry Christmas.

Home of the St. John’s Water Dog!

Happy Holidays

The Vigil of Christmas and Christmas Eve are the same thing: Dec. 24. Traditionally, fast (and abstinence) were required on the Vigil of Christmas.

Christmas Eve was a day of fast and abstinence in earlier times. It was one of the many dropped from the current list.

We are not required to fast nor abstain from meat on Christmas Eve. That obligation was dropped sometime in the 60s when I was still in school.

And a very merry Christmas to you also, fellow resident of this beautiful province – from a CFA living on the Mainland part of the Province.

We have always Abstained and Fasted for Christmas Eve (Dec.24) It our family tradition, no matter if the Bishop says differently .

Christmas Eve and Christmas Vigil are the same thing aren’t they?

Had a marvellous Christmas…hope everyone here did to:thumbsup:

The Tradition of the Church has been to practice abstenice for all major Feasts, a little restraint heightens the glory of the Feast in my humble opinion
