**So…

Advent is a time of preparation, but not so solemn as Lent, right? More of an anticipation?**

Exactly. And it begins the on the Sunday immediately following Christ the King Sunday, or four Sundays before Christmas. I can’t give you an exact date, because unlike the fixed solemnities, it shifts every year. It is also the start of the new Church year, which means we start a new cycle of Mass scripture readings. For example, we have been using Cycle A readings, and this Sunday we begin using Cycle B readings.

A quick online search turned up this: Lectionary: Sundays and Solemnities (1992 Canadian Edition) so you can follow along with the Mass readings at home.
Then Christmas is to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Dec 25 to Jan 11. Specific Christmas decorations can and should be up during this time period…not before or after? But “winter” decorations are ok?
