Why not choose a date closer to his birthday? It’s crazy to celebrate someones birthday when they themselves didn’t. I guess this just adds to more confusion of men addition in your religion.
Hi,
I dont think I could answer that. Im not sure why they chose that date. We dont know when his actual birthday was. I think it is in January. Jesus wasnt here to celebrate his birth. He was here to preach and to die for us–including you BTW. That is a whole different topic.😃

I can’t wait for Advent so that I can wait for Christmas. 😉
I’ve been listening to this recently

As little children
We would dream of Christmas morn
Of all the gifts and toys
We knew we’d find
But we never realized
A baby born one blessed night
Gave us the greatest gift of our lives

And it makes me feel very blessed indeed.
So I can’t wait for Christmas!

Hopefully, I will be able to send many Christmas cards this year, anyone wanna send me? 😛

The Bible says it was a cool night. Most great scholars claim it was in the spring months of April or May.

Aren’t you guys followers of Jesus, peace be upon him? No Prophet, peace be upon them celebrated their birthdays. So who are you following? In the Bible there are only two recorded birthdays being celebrated.
  1. Pharoah in which he beheaded many of his chossen people to behead as a present for his birthday
  2. Herod, and he killed JOHN THE BAPTIST on this day.

Hi,

I have never studied birthday celebrations in the bible. Ill take your word for it for now. Hey, maybe that is why the JW dont celebrate birthdays;)

Do you celebrate birthdays? Do you celebrate Muhommads(SP?) bday? Im just wondering.

I keep track and I acknowledge my birthday and Muhammad’s birthday, but I do not celebrate either.

NEVER take someone word for something unless you have done research. Any one could be lieing or misinformed. This is how wrong information get passed down and recorded.

I’ll look up some information on this for you if you are interested in reading more about it.

We most certainly celebrate the birth of our Saviour…this isn’t a BIRTHDAY celebration as we celebrate in modern times…it is the hope and the faith and the long awaited coming of the person who could show us true freedom. You have to remember that the Israelites had been in captivity, both physical and spiritual…and here was their Saviour…of course they would celebrate his birth, he brought them spiritual freedom…and freedom from death to boot!

Everyone:
For what it is worth…try this, go into a store at Christmas time and find religious themed wrapping paper…when you do, you have found a store that is worthy of your money…
Or…see what music they are playing, is it Frosty the snowman or is it O Holy Night?..
Walk up to every employee and say Merry Christmas…see what they say back…insist that you will only shop at a place where employees say Merry Christmas.

My friend that works at Walmart ordered a whole bunch of Christmas buttons to wear at work…all religious themed…I dare them to fire her… she has way too much seniority not to mention reason for law suit for them to do a darn thing to her! Walmart is treading on eggshells around here about the whole Christmas thing already. Last year at our local store a bunch of people came in and walked through the store Christmas Caroling…all about Jesus…I think I will join them this year.

I find it so sad that people are afraid of offending someone which is The birth of Jesus Christ. Is and will always be. When I was a kid, everything was Holy. Everyone was a Catholic. My Jewish friends would come to our house and celebrate and it wasn’t a disgrace as some secular people are looking at it. Last year as soon as Macy’s told their people NOT to say Merry Christmas, I never shopped in there again. I think this year it will be different.
It’s as if it’s a sin to mention Our Lord 😦

Buddha did not die for our sins, Mohummed did not die for our sins, but Jesus Christ died for our sins.- Rev. Graham

who are the people that “might” be offended? and offended of what? it’s about hatred, not offence.

Jesus is not the reason. He did not celebrate his birthday nor was he born in December.
Sufi,
It is very difficult to explain our faith with yours when you haven’t read about it and know how Sacred Christianity is. To not know the history of the church, or to not really know Jesus is pretty tough. We celebrate Our Saviour’s birth in December because that’s when we celebrate it. He is the reason for the season because Christ-mas is Jesus and nothing more. The opening of gifts and even the tree are even religiously symbolic.
Millions of people all over the world, or I should say billions celebrate The Birth of Our Saviour. I have been to The Vatican at Christmas time, and it is breathtaking.
We celebrate The Birth Of Our Lord because He is The Messiah who came that The Prophets foretold about. the King of Kings, The Son of The Living God.

The people who don’t believe in Our Lord, I don’t understand, do you mean a hatred toward Christians in general?

I always say Merry Christmas. I can remember several times last year when a cashier would say “Happy Holidays” and I’d respond “Merry Christmas!” and their face would light up. Some grinned like we’d just shared a secret joke or something.

Some people are saying that X-mas is bad, and I’ve heard about it ‘x-ing’ out Christ, but I’ve always heard (and it’s sounded more genuine to me) that the X was because of Kristos, a sort of short-hand for it. Can anybody disprove this?

And I’d like to see somebody proove to me that Jesus didn’t celebrate his birthday, or even just that he told us not to. (I’m not going to not celebrate birthdays based on Pagan Birthdays btw, that’s silly. Pagans had marriage rituals too, should we not get married? )

I looooove Christmas! 😃 I never got tired hearing/ reading/ watching the Christmas story. To me, its the most beautiful story of all. It is after all the story of our salvation. Proof of how much God loves us.

In my country, we a have a beautiful tradition of going to Midnight Mass in the days leading up to Christmas. Its our way of preparing for the big day—CHRISTMAS!

There are also, the add-on traditions that we have that make it also nice, like getting to eat our Christmas favorites “bibingka and puto-bungbong” (rice cake and violet cake made of rice steamed in bamboo—Yummmmm!), and the colorful parols that signify the star of Bethlehem.

Of course there is the gift-giving that can break our bank account if we’re not careful. I learned never to go over the top with it. Like, last Christmas, I bought my nieces as cheap as twenty pesos (I think its around US 40 cents)–it was a plastic crown for princesses-wanna-be–and it became a hit with them.

As long as the gifts are well-thought of, well-meaning, it doesn’t matter how much it costs. What matters to me is making people happy.

God taught us to love one another.

As far as I am concerned, I am proud to be Christian. It is because I am a Christian that I have the capacity to love others, especially those who are different from me—EX: our Muslim brothers. 👋

Sooooo…to everyone here…MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Not to be the scrouge or anything but I refuse to have anything to do with anything associated with Christmas until AFTER Thanksgiving. I get so irritated when Thanksgiving is overlooked by the commercialism of Christmas! :banghead:
Ok, sorry I had to get that off my chest. I saw the title of this thread and the first thing that came to mind is “oh no, it’s not time to be talking about Christmas yet”.

oh i thought some Christians don’t use it…my mistake.
a non-Christian must say Merry Christmas because if he wants to greet on this occasion, this is the way…no matter who he believes Jesus is.

Can’t wait for Christmas 😃

I agree…can’t wait for Christmas either. I am so happy I am a Christian. 😃

Christmas is always way cool !!!

If I could celebrate it from January through to December I would. I like to put up decorations long before December and I try not to take them down until well past January, sometimes close to Easter in March or April.

The commercialism doesn’t bother me at all, I love to see the bright lights and decorations, even if they like to start it before Thanksgiving. They could start it in July and it would be fine with me.

I feel sorry for folks who do not celebrate birthdays, especially Christmas. How can anyone follow a faith that doesn’t believe in Christmas ??? It’s like living a life without joy, laughter, magic and wonder. It may be possible, but it would be awfully dreary.

👍

PS: Children must be taught the meaning of Christmas, and not that it is about gifts…parents must read to them Christmas stories about Jesus 👍 oh my, i feel it’s Christmas time already:D
