In the country I’m staying the meaning of Christmas is more about exchanging gifts, eating out, showing off new clothes. So sad!
And lukewarm Christians do go attending Christmas mass out of tradition. You know once a year big routine.

And? Christmas for you is what you make it - ignore what others are doing and make sure YOU give thoughtful, meaningful (rather than flashy) gifts.

Prepare yourself spiritually for the season with extra prayer and reflection(that’s what Advent is about). Get into the joy of Midnight Mass (or whichever Mass you attend). Spend some time - why not right now? - asking the child Jesus to come into your heart and the hearts of those around you as He did into the cold of Bethlehem to light and warm it with His presence.

Pray a novena. This one - fisheaters.com/customsadvent8.html - is a nice one you can start on December 16 .

Christmas has meaning, the meaning assigned by God in fulfilling his plan for our salvation, in all times and places. What OP means is the way he observes people, even those who claim to be Christians, behaving at this time of the year does not indicate they understand or appreciate that meaning. The solution is of course to observe Christmas in ways that indicate your belief and use this as an opportunity for evangelization and witness.

the “O come all ye to the Mall and consume mass quantities” event that coincides with the Christian liturgical season of Advent has nothing whatever to do with the Christian Holy Day of Christmas.
