When Christmas falls on a Sunday, the feast day of Christmas is celebrated. From the Saturday Vigil, Midnight Mass, fist Mass of the day etc. This year, the Holy Day of Obligation falls on a Monday. Hence, Christmas celebrations commence on Monday.
And, more to Digitonomy’s point (heh), the celebration of Christmas takes precedence and replaces the Sunday celebration. (Just as, for instance, when November 1 falls on a Sunday, the Solemnity of All Saints is celebrated, and there simply is no 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time for that year)

I am surprised that this has come up…the short anwser is Monday being Christmas is a Holy Day of Obligation…why do people want to short cut everything. Jesus in redeeming us mankind could have shortcut by spilling a single drop of blood…he did not …

My priest is having our “Midnight Mass” @ 10 as well. I just don’t understand how priests can change this little tradition. To me if you feel free to change a little “t”, then you may try to change a big “T”. How do you fight this movement??

They can’t have midnight at 10pm. It will be a Christmas eve vigil Mass.
