The Christmas Novena starts today, December 16th. Anyone else say this novena? It was always part of our Advent traditions growing up.

Day one - **December 16: **

O Shepherd that rulest Israel, Thou that leadest Joseph like a sheep, come to guide and comfort us.

Say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory be.

Odd, I was just about to start the EWTN Christmas novena just now. Just now.

Ok, well, here goes. 🙂

Why don’t we make this thread such that everyone doing the Christmas novena prays for the others’ (silent) intentions ?

Would that work ?

Sounds like a wonderful idea - include me in!

Works for me!🙂 In fact, I’m going to start NOW before everyone in the household gets up and starts interrupting my prayers!

Ok, this is great. Merry Christmas everyone, and even for those who may be joining late, I’m sure the intention is far more important than the execution…

**Day 2 - December 17:
**O Wisdom that comest out of the mouth of the Most High, that reachest from one end to another, and orderest all things mightily and sweetly, come to teach us the way of prudence.

Say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory be.

**Day 3 - December 18:
**O Adonai, and Ruler of the house of Israel, Who didst appear unto Moses in the burning bush, and gavest him the law in Sinai, come to redeem us with an outstretched arm.

Say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory be.

19 December - Day 4

O Root of Jesse, which standest for an ensign of the people, at Whom the kings shall shut their mouths, Whom the Gentiles shall seek, come to deliver us, do not tarry.

Say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory be.

Gearoidin

**Day 5 - December 20:
**O Key of David, and Sceptre of the house of Israel, that openeth and no man shutteth, and shutteth and no man openeth, come to liberate the prisoner from the prison, and them that sit in darkness, and in the shadow of death.

Say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory be.

Gearoidin

**Day 6 - December 21: **
**
**O Dayspring, Brightness of the everlasting light, Son of justice, come to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death.

Gearoidin

**Day 7 - December 22:
**O King of the Gentiles, yea, and desire thereof! O Corner-stone, that makest of two one, come to save man, whom Thou hast made out of the dust of the earth.

Day 8 - December 23:

O Emmanuel, our King and our Law-giver, Longing of the Gentiles, yea, and salvation thereof, come to save us, O Lord our God!

thank you for this novena, lovely, just went to my 2nd Posada last night, the Mexican tradition in celebrating the Novena. The youth and children of the extended family–about 14 kids–led the procession, the leading the rosary, Mary and Joseph, and peregrinos carrying candles, adults in the rear. What tickled me is the way the kids took charge, led the prayers, led the songs, they all knew them by heart (adults and song sheets to help). Now whether they were doing it to earn a right to swing at the pinata I can’t say, but they were equally as enthusiastic in both the prayer part and the song part. We ended at the home that was the “inn” with a proclamation of Luke’s gospel of the annunciation (there is a different gospel each night, following the story) and a meditation from one of the teens. glad to see this tradition is alive and well.

Our Jr Hi retreat was based on the O Antiphons and they finished by making a banner which was hung in church last weekend as a gift to the parish.
