Our pastor read the entire genealogy found in Matthew 1 last Sunday, and said he’ll explain why afterwards in the homily. The reason is we tend to forget Christ was prophesied for a very long time with many generations, and his lineage are of both sinners and saints. Then Christ finally came. What a joy!! God doesn’t tell us to celebrate, but we celebrate because Christ finally came. Also, Christ was born more near the feast of Tabernacles, but we reflect on Christmas due to historical reasons. If we tried moving the birth date to a closer time of the Feast, people will still argue “no, it was this day,” and “no, it was that day.” People get boggled down by the details too much and lose the purpose of Christ’s birth - 14 generations in waiting from Abraham, (27?) in Luke. A priest once said Christmas replaced a pagan holiday, and it’s light of Christ’s birth was the evangelization of the pagans back then. It’s an assimilation.Hellow everyone !
My friend was telling me that some Christans don’t celebrate or go to church on Christmas. And that Christmas is no were mentioned in the Bible as a holy date for us Christans to celebrate. My friend told me that Easter and Christmas are not metioned in the Holy Bible to observe or celebrate and that God put certain times to celebrate and observe but Christmas and easter are not the ones. So my question is does God want us to celebrate Christmas and would you think Jesus the son and God the father would be happy with our Christmas celebration and us christans observering Christmas as the birth of our saviour. My friend told me that the 25th of December is not even the correct date of jesus Christs birthday. I was shocked to hear this ! Do we give presents and have a Christmas dinnear and put up decorations in respect and gratitude to our lord Jesus Christ or is there something iam missing. btw, my friend is a atheist so I don’t really listen to much to her but it kind of made me think a little. I hope some good roman catholic or Christan can put me clear on this subject please.
Your friend sounds like he comes from a church I came out from, but since she’s an atheist - I know a church who thinks just like this and don’t celebrate Christmas. They get boggled down to details and each and every one of them tend to be weak in their own personal relationship with Christ. There’s more hatred inside. Christ is born after many generations! Why not reflect on how significant this was back then, even now? They argue even Easter, but Christ has risen!! It’s a great joy. God didn’t tell us to celebrate these two holidays, but we do as Christians because it’s the two major parts of our evangelization and joy. God bless.
