Ok folks, what did you buy or what are you planning to buy that you believe is truly a great gift?

My wife is a history buff, loves English history. She has been reading a book titled THE WIVES OF HENRY VIII. In fact her copy is so old and so worn out that the cover recently fell off the book. (Published 1993)

**So my inspired gift, after a lot of thinking, was just ordered over the internet. I purchased a FIRST EDITION copy, SIGNED by the author, of her very favorite book. The price was pretty modest, certainly far less than I would have spent in my normal last minute panic buying frenzy when I can’t think of what to buy her . . . and if you have not faced that last minute panic buying frenzy then its only because you have not been married as long as we have because eventually your spouse will say something like "I have everything I need/want. . . " and you will be totally clueless as to what to buy

So, assuming your spouse does not visit these forums, what did you/are you buying that you hope, believe, pray will be the appreciated gift of the season?

Terrific gift idea, melensdad!!! She should really cherish that.🙂 My dh posts here, also…but I usually give away what I’m giving people. :whacky: My dh really dislikes that…he never hints with my gifts…

Well now I’m wondering if I made a mistake?

I got a hardback copy of the book. Seems like a soft cover would hurt less if she didn’t appreciate it and wacked me over the head

She won’t. :o Stop it. Don’t worry…it’s the thought that counts.🙂 But, I have a feeling she will like it!

What a thoughtful gift! I am sure she will love it.

If your wife loves English history, may I suggest the biography of Eleanor of Aquitaine. I read the Marion Meade book 20 years ago. Can’t vouch for the Allison Weir book.

As for our Christmas this year:

DH gets a chainsaw and I get a new Calphalon pan, plus some little things. What we each wanted, BTW. I typically get practical gifts, like for our anniversary I asked for a steam mop. 🙂

Well my wife actually asked for a pair of Acorn slippers. I’m sure she will get those too. Probably from my daughter 👍

My hubby hates Christmas presents or Birthday presents. He is very difficult to buy for. This year, I found a perfect gift for him. We were at a family funeral recently, and a relative told us about a past relative who lived in Europe in WWII, and who made a daring and extraordinary escape from him circumstances. There is a book written about him, and I found it on the internet! I ordered it, it arrived today, and hubby will NEVER guess what it is, and will be BLOWN AWAY when he opens it!!

(Now I can’t wait until Christmas…)

My boyfriend wants a gun. :ehh: :hmmm: This perplexes my non-hunting Canadian sensibilities. I can’t buy one here in Korea and mail it to him (could you imagine? ) so I’ll send him the money instead. I kind of suspect that instead of a gun, he’ll end up buying himself something cheaper and using the money to get gifts for his family instead. Doesn’t bother me. Whatever works.

I bought my wife a new oven! Well, I guess it’s birthday and Christmas together. She loves it. We needed one before Thanksgiving.

I got my wife a new fur coat and Coach handbag to go with it. Inside the handbag I’ve filled it with gift cards to her favorite spa.

Just call me SuperHusband:D

I don’t need a fur coat, but a coach bag? With gift cards to a spa? Great ideas!!👍

PenguinsFan…honey, if you come on here later, please take notes in this thread. 😃

I get her a new fur every year. She has enough to fill a fur salon!

I simply hinted that ropes of Tahitian pearls to twine through my hair would be…acceptable. Although an exquisite, preferably antique emerald chatelaine would also be most appreciated. 😃
