Oddly enough, Christmas Eve was the only day of the season I actually enjoyed working in retail. I used to work at an independent music store, and for Christmas Eve we would all dress up (women in skirts and fancy tops, men in suits and ties) and we would all bring food for a potluck in the back office, with the owners providing big sandwich trays. The cashiers and floor staff would take turns going in the back for eats and drinks, and by closing at 6pm we would all be stuffed and happy that we had seen the last of the crazy shoppers.And I’ll be the one behind the counter smiling on the outside and wishing you a Christmas in Siberia on the inside as I’m ringing you up and trying to get out of the store to be with my family.
