I was just curious. What kind of Christmas Tree do y’all use/have?

In the old days we liked the real thing, but when the price of a real Christmas tree went to 100 dollars we had to do something else. So we went the artificial route. You don’t know its fake till you touch if you discount the scent. Trees from up north are very expensive in my part of the country. We have high ceilings in our den, and a small tree would look odd, so we like them BIG. It has been many years since I priced one, but 15 years ago, it was 100 dollars for a Douglas Fur, or Blue Spruce.

We do have home grown Christmas trees, but somehow a pine tree ain’t the same. LOL

We put out our tree up weekend after Thanksgiving, and down before New Years.
 
We get the real thing… just from the local Home Depot (they’re only around $35 here!)…
I grew up with a fake one (my parents still have that 20 year old tree and it looks great!)… so I wouldn’t mind going with that… but Hubby like the real thing… 🤷
 
We have a fake one. We just pull it out of the box and put it in its stand on Christmas Eve. It’s pre-decorated and everything. 🙂
 
NO tree right now… had a full sized artificial one when we first married but it wasn’t the best quality and after a few years our cat had all but destroyed it. Then we went with a little 3’ artificial on a table top (as we got more grown up furniture we had less room for a tree, lol.). We used it last year but will not be doing a tree at all this year. With the amount of havoc our little Lily can wreak I am not adding one more thing to my house than can be destroyed, cause electrocution, or be used as a weapon:eek:😛

**I have never had a real tree (here or my parents growing up). While I think they are beautiful, the thought of some nasty hibernating bug thawing in my living room and thinking it’s spring would really creep me out!

Fake city here. But it looks good.

One year, I think it was our (DW & I) 2nd Christmas together. We did real trees. I had just put up the tree. We had spent the morning decorating it. We stepped back to look and it promptly fell over. Got it back up, fixed it. 2 hours latter it fell over again. We had only had it a day and it looked like it had been through a World War already. We opted for the fakery unit after that. Never had the fake one go to ground.
 
We always had a fake tree with my family because my mom and I are alergic to pine pollen. We can be around them, but having one in the house for a month really gives both of us trouble. Not to mention that my mom’s tree is 14 ft. tall, it’s hard to find that size natural tree.
 
I have an artificial tree because there’s just something sad about driving passed the Christmas tree lots on Christmas Eve and seeing the trees that didn’t get picked.

I know that probably sounds silly.
 
We buy the real thing. I think I’d go without rather than have a fake one. I love the smell of a real tree.

I kinda don’t want one this year, but my husband is of the opinion we need one. Funny thing is we both have the same reason behind our opposite opinions on the subject: the toddler. My husband wants his son to have a Christmas tree. I’d really really really rather not police the toddler away from the tree. I did buy all plastic and wood ornaments last year, but still… I’m due with baby 2 on Epiphany, which is the day I take down the tree. Oh, and my husband’s duty to the tree consists of paying for it and picking it up from the store. I’m the decorator (lights and all), water monitor, de-decorator, and disposer. So I really think that if I
acquiesce to getting a tree this year, we’re probably going to be looking at it till St. Patrick’s day.

by personal preference, real only, and we did make the trip to cut a tree for several years (never tree from a lot, won’t last long enough).

however in years when we travelled to relatives over the holidays we used fake tree for safety.

don’t have to fuss about Christmas decor any more, my tree is 8" tall, will go on my hall table on the 4th Sunday of Advent, in the middle of the Advent wreath, and will replace the candles with white the next day.
 
We have a fake tree. Our first Christmas being married we didn’t put it up, mostly because I was in the hospital until a few days before Christmas (6 weeks). Went back a week later to give birth to our son.

But we have always put one up, even when the kids were toddlers. I didn’t have a problem, but I’m apparently blessed with good kids ;).
 
Grwing up we’d take a road trip to the mountains, drive past several tree lots on twisty roads, until Dad found a lot with the right price. Or until my little brother got carsick. (Usually the perfect place showed up just before he started moaning.)
One year, Dad decided little bro was old enough (7) so he gave him the saw to begin cutting the tree. That was a bigger deal than Christmas!
Now, the past 15 yrs or so they’ve had a fake one, but since this Christmas is a huge deal, my brother hinted that he may find “just the right tree before I get carsick.” I have a niece who’s alergic, so we’ll see who wins out-Mom or us kids.

We have gone the artifical route over the years…but the tree is packed away in our garage, and I’m afraid spiders might be in there. And they are big here in Florida. :frighten: Yikes. So, I think it’s time to buy a new one. lol I hate spiders!😊

I am thinking the real route this year…

EM–Thanks for the tip…I was wondering where to buy a real tree here in Florida.🙂
 
We use a real one. We’ll go out and get another one when its time. Having a fake one isn’t the same as real one IMO.
 
REAL trees only need apply here.

I cut my own down usually, around 8-9 feet and fat as I can find. Nothing worse than a skinny tree. It’s like having super model in your living room…not very conducive to feeling Christmas-y.:dts: :ehh: I’ve never paid more than 60$. Home depot has good trees too just have to make sure they cut the trunk off before you leave with it and get it home into warm or hotish water rapido.

I put mine up oh maybe a week before Christmas and take it down until the Baptism of Our lord since that is when Christmastide is officially over.

I’ve never had an artificial tree because they look too perfect for my taste. I prefer the hodgepodge of ornaments that the kids put all in one spot and the uneven lights. Not to mention the scent, ahhhhhh the scent.

LOL I have never even thought of this and I’m a big bug o phobe. Hmmmm. I’ve not had any bugs in my whole life of having real trees though…so I won’t let my imagination run off with me now:p

Isn’t there something about pine sap that repels bugs? Isn’t it used in some bug repellents :confused: 🤷
 
Fake.

Not because we like them so much as because we have some serious allergies. Since we got an artificial tree we (my son and I) haven’t had asthma attacks, bronchitis, and laryngitis like we did before.
 
I’m allergic to real trees, so when we buy one, we’ll have a fake one. My parents always had real ones until about 4 years ago, and I loved the smell, but I always got sick because of my allergies.

We’ve been married for 3 years and we haven’t had a tree yet. We had a little table-top thing the first year. Last year we went to my in-laws and this year we’re going to my parents, so no reason for a tree (plus I wouldn’t trust my cats not to ruin it while we’re gone).
 
It was a family tradition for us, all of us whether we lived near or far, with our parents or on our own, we were to meet up with them to choose the family’s Christmas tree! A natural tree!
It was nice, all the kids running around while choosing the tree and after we grew up all our children running around while everyone chose the tree! It was great!

We would spend Christmas with my family and everyone loved the smell of the Christmas tree…It gave a different feel to the house and made Christmas even more warm!! I miss my family and I miss our real Christmas tree tradition!! 😦
 
If you mean that it’s made in a factory out of non-flammable materials and flame retardant, why yes, it’s fake. I’ve seen a Christmas tree burn, and it’s not a pretty sight. So all these years, I’ve had fake trees.

If you mean does it help represent the spirit of Jesus’ birth with family history and significance in a meaningful manner, yes, it’s very real.

What I’d like to get buy but DH won’t let me is a shades of the 1950s flocked tree with an old-fashioned color wheel, or perhaps fiber-optic lights.
 
Every year for my entire life, up until about 3 years ago, I had a real tree. I love the look and the smell of the real deal.
Even when I moved to Florida, and my roommate didn’t particularly care one way or the other, I bought a real tree. It only took about a week of coming home from work a few years ago to the tree knocked over by the 2 dogs and 2 cats (and the subsequent water soaked into the wood floor!) that we both agreed to buy a fake tree.
One of the cats has since died (my Beau was 17 years old, and I still miss him), but we’ve added 2 dogs, so there are now 4 dogs and 1 cat. There is no way on God’s green earth that I am going to attempt a real tree.
Even now, when we get home from work at Christmas time, we find ornaments and “tree” limbs scattered around the house.
We’ve had quite a few ornament casualties, but last year was the funniest. My roommate and I decided to decorate the tree with a bunch of birds. We were very careful to pick out realistic looking birds, and all of them had real feathers on them. Well, they must have been very realistic, because one day we both came home to find the bits of fabric bird bodies and feathers everywhere!! (OK, that was way off topic, but I still laugh when I think about it.)
