I was reading a Protestant book (by the A.C.E. organization, which makes a home-school workbook for people.) today and I saw that they said that the Jesuits destroyed Christopher Columbus’ birth certificate for no apparent reason. They gave no further information. Does anyone know if this is true if so, why did they?

I will not be able to respond to at least tomorrow. Just thought I’d let yall know.

I have never heard this. I Googled it several different ways, and I can find only one site that says he was actually Jewish and the Jesuits have covered it up as the Jews and the Catholic Church are in collusion to rule the world with the Illuminati. It was all a bunch of bunk. Can you run down a better quote on it and we can see what we can do? The name of the book would help

I’ve never heard of it either. But I do know Jimmy Akin said on CAL on Aug. 24, 2001 that there were rumors Washington converted to Catholicism on his death bed. I only remember the episode cuz I made a note of it. 😃

Well its actually their history workbook for American history. For context they say it right after they say "Despite his (Columbus) lip service to the Roman Catholic Church and the fact he was a Sephardic (i might have misspelled that) Jew, he was probably a secret Christian.

It also just occurred to me that they didn’t have birth certificates back then did they?

Well given that Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue before the so-called Reformation it would be more correct to say he was probably a secret Catholic. It is only after the so-called Reformation that we see people use “Christian” to try and distance themselves from the one true church.

There were no birth certs then. Just possibly, instead of an outright lie, it’s one of those fish stories that keep growing every time they’re told.
May be a midwife in attendance wrote a letter to his family’s physician (if they ahd one) saying he was healthy or whatever, and it ended up in a stack of other letters, some of which were damaged somehow and put out with the trash. Or maybe someone in the family wrote down the details of the birth for personal memory’s sake and someone who couldn’t read took it to be a secret love letrter or something and tore it in half and threw it out for personal reasons. Or maybe his baptism was recorded in a document that also had other information in it that was found to be inaccurate, about other people, and the record was discarded. Who knows by now? Just remember to take these stories witha grain of salt.🤷

Since Queen Isabella expelled all Jews from her territories in 1492 It is hard to see how Columbus got back to tell her of his findings.

Oh, those nasty ole Jebbies.

It must be WONDERFUL to have someone to blame things on.

There were NO birth certificates in this period. One’s birth would have been noted in the parish baptismal register.

The only birth records in Europe prior to the 19th century were parish baptismal records. These usually included the birth date of the infant. Hard to believe that Jesuits would want to destroy Chris’ baptismal record.

The phrase “secret Christian” alerts me that this book embraces the nonsensical “Trail of Blood” revision of history.

Ah, the Invisible Secret Trail of Blood Leading Nowhere That Somehow Or Other Some Random Modern Individuals Are Able to Find, or just Trail of Blood. :hmmm: :hypno: :ouch: :rotfl:

What bothers me more than anything is that this is in a “textbook” used by some homeschoolers. It just shows the potential risks of having people who do not know anything about a subject teaching it with materials that are not legitimate texts.

Although it is not much crazier than some of the stuff taught in California public schools. In the 1990s we had a history textbook that stated that Martin Luther King freed the slaves.

I am not surprised. My focus in college was in Social Psych with an emphesis on Education. A majority of curriculii are put together by people who have never taught a class at all. You add to that the pressure on some text-book companies to write books that are “popular with the public” and you get that.

I have no issue with Homeschools. It is a very useful alternative for many parents. We do need better control so that garbage like this is not taught. In the end, only the kids will be hurt. Imagine what happens when this child becomes a joke to a professor for saying something like this in class.

**Did they know that Christopher Columbus was Italian and not Spanish?

When I did my own family geneaology, I was able to go back to at least 1573. However, the baptisms were entered into the parish’s Baptismal book. There were no ‘certificates’ as such, mostly just a ledger.

I don’t know where this A.C.E. organization gets its material but it is simply wrong. The Provincial archive in Genoa has a Sala Colombiana, a small room that holds many original Columbus family documents. They have survived the events of five centuries, including Louis XIV’s 1684 naval bombardment of Genoa. More than 60 documents recount the story of the Columbus family, beginning with the youth of Domenico Colombo. He was apprenticed to a Flemish weaver at the age of 11 and become a master weaver. Domenico Colombo married Susanna Fontanarossa. Their first child was Cristoforo, in 1451; later came Giovanni Pellegrino, Bartolomeo, Giacomo, and daughter Bianchinetta.

Christopher worked with his father. He first appears in the notarial record of September 1470. By 1472 Columbus had learned his father’s trade, for in that year he is called LANAIOLO, a worker in wool. It is not clear when he became a sailor, but by 1479 he was living in Portugal. We know this because of a 1479 lawsuit stating that Christopher Columbus a Genoese citizen residing in Portugal, was representing Genoese merchants in this transaction. We also know that Christopher Columbus donated one-tenth of his income from his discovery of the Americas to the Bank of San Giorgio in Genoa for the relief of taxation on foods.

There is a faction of Protestant “revisional history” which attempts to portray the Church in every possible evil light, which is evil in itself. And much of the information is wrong. Columbus’s baptism was in the church of Santa Margarita. How A.C.E. ever got it so wrong is beyond me. Then again, it’s agenda is obvious.**

What is the “The Trail of Blood” revision of history?

Well being the only Catholic in the school I try to stand up for the Church and tell the others what really happened but now they think I’m just lying. The scary thing is is that this is an international company.

They say that Christopher was saying he was Italian so he wouldnt be killed by the Church for being Jewish.

What is the “The Trail of Blood” revision of history?
The Trail of Blood view of church history says that from the time of Christ until now, there have always been Baptists or ana-baptists (the true Christians) who believed what Baptists believe now. These Baptists were the original Christians, but as the early church became corrupt and eventually became the evil Catholic Church, these true Christians were persecuted and put to death. They were forced to go underground and become “secret Christians” while pretending to be Catholic in order to survive.

The proponents of this idea, which has absolutely no evidence, claim that the Catholic Church arrested and executed millions of secret Baptist Christians throughout the “dark ages”. Only with the “reformation” were the secret Christians allowed to surface and practice their religion.

They use quotes that cannot be substantiated historically, and cite statistics that are impossible (supposedly the Catholics executed the entire population of Europe 9 times over).

Most of the Baptists I have met really believe this stuff.
