Has anyone heard of a man named “Christos” that the Persians worshipped before Jesus? I had a guy ‘prove’ to me that Jesus and Christianity were fake because there was another “Jesus story” before He ever came to earth.

‘Christ’ or ‘Christos’ was NEVER a proper name for Jesus. It is a title - the Greek version of the Hebrew word ‘Messiah’. It simply means ‘anointed one’. Now ALL the Kings and Prophets of Israel were anointed! It was simply a way of indicating that the saviour would be both king and prophet as well.

If I remember rightly, there were others before and the time of Jesus who claimed to be THE Messiah of Jewish prophey as well. Not that they were, of course

So overall the argument is a bit like saying Elizabeth I couldn’t possibly have been Queen of England because

a) her sister Mary bore the title ‘Queen’ before her and

b) there was a lady in Scotland (Mary Queen of Scots) who ALSO claimed to be Queen of England at the same time as Elizabeth!

Clearly there was A rightful Queen of England, whether it was Elizabeth of Mary of Scotland is a matter of conjecture but the mere fact of there being two claimants for the throne doesn’t mean Elizabeth automatically couldn’t have been Queen.

Christos whoever he was is not respected by Muslims , worshipped by Christians . So , how that guy proved to you that Jesus (p) is a fake one ?

Alex, I’ll let you in on a little secret. The demons knew the Jewish Messiah - “the Anointed One” - was coming. The devil knew the Messiah would crush his head! Oh, and the pagans worshiped demons (1 Corinthians 10:20). So just remember: God is the Creator, Satan is the Imitator, and all these stories about similarities between pagan mythologies and true religion will make perfect sense.

Your friend is long on rhetoric but short on facts.

There was a Christos about 500 years before the birth of Jesus. It is even mentioned in the bible. During the Babylonian exile, the Jews were treated harshly and prayed long for surcease from their captors. Cyrus, King of Persia attacked Babylonia and freed the Jews. The prophet Isaiah named him the “anointed of God” for rescuing the Jews.

Fast forward about 450 years and in the few decades prior to the birth of the Savior of the World the Jews began using a Greek copy of the holy books called the Septuagint. Well, in the Greek the Anointed of God translates as Christos. Therefore Cyrus was called Christos. The Persians did, in fact, believe that their kings were divine and therefore they did worship “Christos”

None of this has any bearing on the divinity of Jesus Christ the Son of God. But it does make for interesting conversation.
