Christ's Attitude Toward Sinners

When asked by Pharisees why He ate with tax collectors and sinners, Jesus responded, “The healthy don’t need a physician, but the sick do. In the same way I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Although Christ associated with sinful people and ate with them, He always made it a point to call for their repentance. How should we imitate Him in this regard?

Repent of our own sins and then try to be a good example?? Remember, Christ exhorted others to not see the speck in a neighbor’s eye and ignore the plank in your own.

With humility, recognize that you are a sinner first then help your brothers and sisters.

t IMO, I don’t think we can do what Jesus does. In his society, I presume these sinners are people who are Jewish (believe in God) yet decide to sin anyway. In our society, the problem is that these people don’t even believe in God, or at least, the true God. How can they repent of a sin if they don’t even believe that’s a sin? And how can they believe something is a sin if they don’t believe in God?

I feel like the first priority is to of course, love first, evangelise and then call for their repentance (eg tell your catholic friend/etc that what they are doing is wrong, encourage to go for confession, pray with them and so on)

Well He gave us the spiritual works of mercy. I expect He would want us to use them.
