So is there anyone read the Chronicle of Narnia series? If so, What’s your opinion about it?

I loved it when I was younger. I watched basically all the movies that were out multiple times, and my father read all the books to me.

Outstanding - great for young & old. An excellent allegorical introduction to Christian concepts.

Read it Loved it. Kept a copy. 🙂
I have copies of other works by Lewis. Mere Christianity. The Four Loves. The Problem of Pain. Pilgrim’s Regress. The Great Divorce.
Lewis was a brilliant author and a great Christian scholar and apologist.

It’s been a while, but I remember reading them multiple times each as a kid (~11-14). There’s some British imperialist sentiments that pop up at times, but they’re still eminently readable.

Have you read them? If so, tell us what you think about them.

I have read them. I enjoyed some of the books more than others.

I only read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe back in third or fourth grade. Should read them again.

They are in my cycle of books that I read every couple of years. Been doing that for decades now 🙂

I enjoyed it as a child. C.S. Lewis does a great job explaining Christian concepts in a manner accessible to children.

I’ve always thought that criticising Lewis for not having the same beliefs of the people of 2018 is a cheap shot and shows no regard for his different circumstances. criticising “nylons and lipstick and invitations” was a common theme when it came to girls in children’s literature of the fifties.

First time I read them was as an adult. Loved the first one with the creation story, The Lion the witch and the wardrobe and the Final battle more than the others. They are in a box in my basement for when I reread them.

I also didn’t read them until I was an adult. I’ve read through them twice with my daughter over the past few years. Not as good as “Lord of the Rings”, but still pretty good. 😜

Of course, I always read them in the proper order (i.e. by publication date).

One of the best fantasy series ever written. It is full of Christian symbolism, but it’s not a bit preachy. Read it, watch the movies and then go find everything C.S. Lewis wrote and read it too. He’s wonderful.

Having re-read them all to my son recently, it’s funny how the books in the series that I liked the best as a kid, like ‘Voyage of the Dawn Treader’ now seem the weakest, whereas the ones I liked least (‘The Last Battle’) are actually pretty solid.

Wonderful books, and as in all the other religious things he wrote, CS Lewis himself though not a character shines through as an incredibly loveable Edwardian uncle.

I read them all when I was in third grade. I caught on to the allegory in the first one and thought it was pretty cool of him to incorporate fantasy and religion like that-- I hadn’t run into it before, but I thought it was interesting that he was able to help us understand a little more about Reality by presenting it as part of Fantasy. It was especially true with creation-ish stuff in “The Magician’s Nephew” and the apocalyptic-ish stuff in “The Last Battle.”

But as far as recreation went, I think my favorite was a toss-up between “Prince Caspian” and “Dawn Treader”.
