I love the Chronicles of Narnia.

I read them for the first time as an adult, when I read them to my son years ago. We still listen to a dramatization of them on long trips.

I’ve read them many many times. Obviously, I’m very fond of them.
This is the opening line of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and it always cracks me up:
There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.

Here’s another, from The Horse and His Boy, which shows how Lewis’ private opinions came into the stories:
“For in Calormen, story-telling (whether the stories are true or made up) is a thing you’re taught, just as English boys and girls are taught essay-writing. The difference is that people want to hear the stories, whereas I never heard of anyone who wanted to read the essays.”

Wonderful books. I love the idea of a world being sung into existence by God.
It also helped to recoil in my mind the place of other beings/worlds created by God.

Will be reading them to my future children for sure.

Gorgeous as is the movie
I have read the stories so many times, I find additions made in the movies irritating. I realize they have to leave things out, but I really do not like it when they change the story. (I particularly did not like the implication of a romance between Caspian and Susan, which was never remotely implied in the stories. Susan and Caspian never exchanged two words in the stories, and Susan was not among the combatants in the Battle of Beruna.)

The movies were much better than most, but still left out a lot of the Christian ideals in the books.

I love the Chronicles of Narnia! My favorite book was probably The Silver Chair and my least favorite, The Horse and His Boy. Lewis’ writing gives the reader a chance to use their imagination all while providing an interesting story! These will be books that I’ll pass on if I have a family!

I also really liked the Disney/Walden Media films.

Funny … I once told relatives that The Last Battle by Lewis seemed more in line with the Bible than Left Behind by LaHaye. The discussion ended with them saying to me, “or in your case, struck by lightning!” Ah, the wonderful world of End-Timers. 🤕

In the meantime, The Narnia Web forums are a great source of current information and fan discussion. Enjoy!
