I was wondering if anyone can point me to an online Catholic resource or book that provides a clear ordering (so far as possible) of the events in Revelation. Events in that book are clearly not chronological. The inclusion of major private revelations would be worth its weight in gold.

Thanks
Norm

Hmmm. Some might say that Rev 12 1-2 occurred on Sept 23rd 2017 though…!

Try researching Scott Hahn’s works. He’s always good. Or Bishop Robert Barron. 🙂

Thanks. I have Bishop Barron’s Catholicism DVDs. They’re excellent. Unfortunately, he doesn’t seem to have written anything about Revelation. I sent an email to Dr. Hahn’s organization to see if his Revelation study guide is usable without having to buy the DVD set. They’re very pricey in Canada. Also, it may not have what I’m looking for. I’ve read and reread multiple Catholic study guides about Revelation, a couple of which are excellent, but none of them attempt to list Revelation events in chronological order, which Revelation is not. I’m not looking for crazy predictions of dates, just the approximate order, preferably including major private revelations. I’m sure it’s been done (there’s a very basic version of it in an old thread here on the site), but googling for many hours hasn’t turned up anything more detailed.

Here you go - Dr. Michael Barber, CD Unlocking the Book of Revelation, Ligthouse Catholic Media. He also has a book, Coming Soon: Unlocking the Book of Revelation. The Catholic Company stocks it. Jeff Cavins has a Bible Study on Revelation. Catholic understanding is totally different from the protestant understanding. You’ll like both suggestions.

Thanks. I have Dr. Barber’s book. It’s one of my favorites (I’m rereading it now). I’ll look up Jeff Cavins’ book. Do you know if it includes a “chronology” of Revelation events? That’s what I’m missing.

I don’t. We haven’t started the study yet. I would assume it will be
presented much like his Bible Timeline. After reading Barber, I’m not sure
how a timeline would apply. I do know protestants adhere to a chronological
list of events. If I understand Barber, much of Revelation has happened or
is happening, in the case of the Mass.

Thanks, Dlee. Since Barber believes most of it was set in the past or is happening now, the number of unknowns related to his interpretation are relatively limited, although I still have questions. However, I’m also reading another Catholic study guide (Revelation by Peter Williamson) that is also excellent, but it interprets much of Revelation as still to come. For example, the seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven woes are not entirely chronological in John’s book (e.g., one of the events burns up all the grass on earth, but later the demonic locusts are instructed not to harm the grass). Also, the end times Antichrist and False Prophet (assuming they are individuals and not just political/secular entities) have yet to appear. If I remember correctly, both Barber and Williamson allow for both individuals as well as collective forces. Satan’s attack on the woman in Rev 12 applies equally well to Mary and the Church. Jesus is born in that chapter, which is placed after the seven seals and the seven trumpets. There are more examples, but I’d need to review my notes to find them all. Dispensationalists interpret parts of Revelation more literally, and I’ve found many timelines from them, but I’m interested in the Catholic interpretation, especially one that incorporates private revelations like the Chastisements, Era of Peace, Great Catholic Monarch, and Angelic Pope. I may have to make my own for the Catholic novels I’m planning, but I don’t consider myself sufficiently qualified, even after reading numerous study guides and websites. There are a couple more sources I’m investigating.
