Well, since the maniple is no longer, and has not been in my lifetime, a required vestment for a priest I cannot answer that.

Shame.

Not exactly sure what that has to do with anything anyway.

The maniple is worn during the Mass. The priest takes it off before the announcements and homily, and puts it back on before the Mass of the Faithful. How is this reconciled with the GIRM (I am sure there is an obvious, coherent, and orthodox to both forms of this Rite’s explination).

From Catholic Encyclopedia, my emphasis added

The maniple is an ornamental vestment in the form of a band, a little over a yard long and from somewhat over two to almost four inches wide, which is placed on the left arm in such manner that it falls in equal length on both sides of the arm.*** It is worn only during Mass, not at the administration of the sacraments, during processions, nor at Benediction, etc.***

Seems to me, that from this and the rest of what I read in the article, I am not the only one who is not sure what a maniple is all about.
