Church attendance on Good Friday

More than last night but still lots of empty pews in a church that seats about 230 for a parish of 1500. Not a great thing when you consider that, in Canada, Good Friday is a statutory holiday.
 
packed, service took 2 hours, people stood in line outside to venerate the cross because they could not get in for the rest of the service, they held the doors open to hear the passion
 
We had a packed church yesterday for Holy Thursday, but tonight the place was only half full.
 
Not even a full house—more people showed up for Christmas.
 
At the parish in which I am actually registered, I can’t say because I attended the EF oratory service. Standing room only. I saw many people I did not recognize. That is partly due to the fact that there are two Sunday Masses but only one Good Friday service. I’m a 10:00 high Mass guy; the people unfamiliar to me were a combination of visitors and 8:00 low Mass folks. The service lasted two and a half hours, not counting the Divine Mercy Novena prayers and Stations of the Cross which followed. And after that the rector stayed as long as necessary for anyone who wanted confession.

Like Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday, it was packed!!! But, most wonderful of all, our daily Mass attendance has increased from 20-25 people to nearly 80. A good turnout for confessions as well.
 
Good Friday services were jammed. People standing. Very impressive turnout, particularly in view of the fact it was really bad weather: downpour started before the service, kind of in time for people to decide to stay home because it was poor driving conditions. But they didn’t!
 
We had standing room only at our parish. My parochial vicar issued a plea throughout Lent that if we were able to attend, we needed to attend. Lent is all about leading us to the Paschal Triduum.

About the same as Holy Thursday; about half as many as the vigil. About 150-200. About 600 hosts were consecrated; about 100 were left after Good Friday.

(Dad’s one of the deacons; I know how many hosts he put in the ciboria before holy thursday… because I watched him prep them.)
 
I expected Holy Thursday to be fuller than it was. The church was full but SRO as I had expected. We were not at our parish for Stations, but Good Friday evening liturgy was about like Holy Thursday. The Easter Vigil was full also, but not as crowded as I’ve seen it. We had fewer baptisms/confirmations this year which may account for it. (Only about 15 confirmed.:D)

All 3 were beautiful liturgies. Reverential, exact, all with chant, incense, excessive numbers of altar boys. (😃 on that last one).

Holy Thursday we had 5 priests (2 visiting), our deacon, and an instituted acolyte (plus 18 altar boys).

Good Friday Liturgy of the Passion - 4 priests, instituted acolyte and 6 altar boys

Easter Vigil - 4 priests, acolyte, 6 altar boys

Easter Sunday Masses (we weren’t at any of them) but I understand that all had 3 priests and 6 boys scheduled. Not sure about the deacons.
 
On Good Friday, we had a pretty full house, and the Way of the Cross that evening had good attendance as well. A good number of businesses shut down on Good Friday here (San Antonio).
