Church Authority and the Amazon Controversy

I don’t know. Maybe you are right. Just wanted to clarify that men, even the pope, can be wrong, and we are not mandated to follow them if they are leading us away from God

Except the action is good in itself here. It is not stealing if you don’t gain something for yourself. The man trashed the statues, he did not keep them or resold and gained nothing in material terms. That cannot be classified by stealing

I understand that, and I have experienced corruption in the Church firsthand. A priest denied me and most of my class First Communion because he was angry our parents missed the last of a series of meetings. Apparently the wrong date was printed by the church, and only a couple parents that heard the right date through the grape vine showed up. He refused to schedule another meeting or accomodate for the mistaken date posting made by the church. After my parents wrote to the bishop, the priest kicked my family out of the church, telling my parents they weren’t welcome anymore.

Soon after, other parents wrote to the bishop and I don’t know what hapoened to the priest, but he was replaced. Unfortunately my family’s faith in the church is still shaken to this day, although they still pray at home. Thanks to God, I regained confidence in the Church after meeting my wife, having many arguments, and doing research.

We are called to trust the clergy.
Haha. Called by whom? I don’t trust any clergy. Not leaving my kids alone in a room with any clergy anywhere. And for some reason I feel the clergy are the ones responsible for causing me to feel this way. 🤔 Seems if they wanted to be so implicitly trusted they would have taken a little more care of their own habits & reputations. I any event, no part of me feels “called” to trust ANYONE who has not first proven themselves trustworthy.

Yes, another user already pointed that out. Judging actions is one thing, we need to judge actions to know what is right. Judging people, the Church leadership, the Amazons, and assuming their intentions is another. If we have concerns about how statues are being used, we should express those concerns and let the Church leadership address them, not go rogue.

Can you make me some common ocvurrence of stealing whete the thief doesn’t gain anything?

If you’re just trying to discredit my perspective to everyone else by nitpicking and don’t care that I know your perspective that’s not very loving.

Not going to play that game. You made the assertion that it is not stealing; you can back it up. Or not. Or you could consider that what they gained was notoriety and a misplaced sense of accomplishment. Whatever.

ETA: If your car was taken and pushed over a cliff, would you accept the logic from your insurance company that they won’t pay because it wasn’t stolen since whoever took it didn’t keep it? Or you wouldn’t report to the police that your wallet was stolen if it disappeared and was thrown into a lake?
