Why is it that when I listen to the radio or watch tv, messages and offers from other churches come on, but hardly from the Catholic church? for example, when I watch a channel, a message from the Mormon church or the Methodist comes on. Or the LDS offers free bibles and other books. I think the catholic church should have more advertisments about how to our lives should be.

If it makes you feel any better, we’re Baptists and we don’t advertise.

i COMPLETELY agree with this. And as someone posted, the Catholics Come Home commercials are there, and various dioceses have started to air them on television. But I do agree that we need some ads similar to the Mormon ones. Just because we’re 1 billion doesn’t mean we stop evangelizing, and obviously we haven’t, but we should take advantage of all avenues of evangelization, including television, radio, and the internet.

As a single Catholic (the second-class citizens at most parishes), I don’t like Catholics Come Home’s ads at all: I even e-mailed the web site to let them know. If the highest proportion of Catholics leaving are young adults…who are ignored when they’re in the Church, only to still be ignored by those who supposedly want them to come back…that makes no sense to me whatsoever. Yes, Catholics come home if you’re married, have kids, et cetera, but…if you’re single, you’re an afterthought to “Catholics Come Home.” Feel free to quote me on that. The people behind that web site know how I feel.

I like EWTN’s PSA’s (public service announcements), like the one about confession. I would encourage people to donate there, instead of “Catholics Come Home,” since “Catholics Come Home” overlooks evangelizing to single Catholics.

If the Catholic Church advertised, what would the ad look like?

that’s interesting, I didn’t think that at all, and I’m a single Catholic in my early 20s. 🤷

I’ll check out EWTN’s PSA’s, I don’t think I’ve seen them.

Protestants frequently complain about how wealthy the Catholic Church is and say that the Vatican should sell all of its buildings and art treasures, etc. and give the money to the poor (overlooking the fact that the Church already operates the largest charities in the world).

Can you imagine the fits they would throw if the Catholic Church started spending money on television commercials?

Can you imagine what would happen if those commercials were effective in reaching Evangelicals with the true gospel? 😛

Hey, there are alot of mormons in the world and they have alot of money because of memberships. Even though they have their charities and humanitarian work, they also have enough money to build temples, send their missionaries out into the world, and can give out free bibles, videos and also spend money on commercials.

If I were doing a commercial, I probably do one that has to do with abortion. Maybe of a single mother and how she said no to abortion. Or how to show teens how waiting for the right time to give themselves to another(abstinence before marraige) is beautiful. That they don’t have to pressured into doing anything just because their peers do it.

That’s a good idea. Definitely commercials focusing on morality, I agree.

Btw, there are only 13 million Mormons in the world, compared to 1 billion Catholics, using official numbers for both. As far as their missionaries, the Mormon church doesn’t pay for that, they pay out of their own pocket.
