every one please check out this article cause i would say i am pretty well read on these matters and i really don’t know what to make of this. I saw that someone posted this on facebook.

anthropologist.livejournal.com/1314574.html

the title of this article is when homosexuality was a christian rite.

the first thing that i have a problem with is that the link to the original document does not work. is this a well thought of hoax?

the second is the information comes from a man named John Boswell who according to Wikipedia:
"Boswell was a Roman Catholic, having converted from the Episcopal Church of his upbringing at age 16. He remained a daily-mass Catholic up until his death, despite his differences with the church over sexual issues. Although he was orthodox in most of his beliefs, he strongly disagreed with his church’s stated opposition to homosexual behavior and relationships. To a certain degree much of the work and research Boswell did regarding the Christian church’s historical relationship with homosexuality can be seen as an attempt to reconcile his sexual orientation with his faith. "
any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated

The rite was not marriage nor was it a union in the physical/sexual sense. It was a spitritual union of friends as brothers in an intense platonic relationship. There is no justification in trying to use it to justify homosexual “marriage”.

The irony of this age is now that homosexual unions are gaining such acceptance, we have no idea how to relate to our own sex. The concept of platonic friendship is becoming increasingly lost.

Likewise, we don’t know how to interpret relationships of the past, and look at them through a hyper-sexualized lens.

If this phenomenon were a Muslim one (or probably any other religion) the conversation would go like this:

“Hey, we have found historical evidence of something which looks like same-sex marriage sanctioned by Islam, is this true?”
“No no, it was not at all a same-sex marriage. You can see that our faith has always condemned homosexuality, so to sanction homosexual marriages would have been absurd!”
“Oh I see, you’re right, that would be rather silly!”

However, the world will never take the Church’s word on anything, not even its own practices.

Great response! It is so gratifying to be in the church that is both the fullness of the faith and pursues objective truth. You have to feel sorry for those on the fringe that know the church and still attempt to spread confusion.

Not only that, but why are these folks trying to get justification from the Church in the first place? I thought they rejected Church teaching.

The indispensable condition for our personal spiritual survival is that we say NO to the prevailing values of the liberal order and that we KEEP saying NO.
