Church Desecrated In Madhya Pradesh Town JABALPUR (ICNS) – For the second time in a week, miscreants have desecrated the Holy Trinity Church premises at Jabalpur in northern India’s Madhya Pradesh state.

The Infant Jesus shrine in the premises of Holy Trinity Church came under attack on Sunday night from miscreants, according to the parishioners and priest-in-charge. One week back, the main church building was desecrated.

A group of unidentified youth threw rotten eggs and some coloured water at the Infant Jesus shrine on Sunday night before the security guard spotted them, said Fr Joseph Periyappuram, priest-in-charge of the Holy Trinity Church.

The priest said the group came on motorcycles and by the time the security guard spotted them, they had desecrated the shrine and fled on their bikes.

The local Catholic community has registered a First Information Report with the Omti Police Station and have demanded immediate action against the miscreants.

A week back, over 600 parishioners who reached the church for the Monday morning Mass were greeted by a desecrated church. On the previous night the miscreants had desecrated the main church with rotten eggs, cow dung and coloured water.

Some believers broke down seeing the desecrated church.

Fathe Periyappuram and other local Church leaders said a case was filed at the Omti police station on June 6 but it had no impact. And the second attack came exactly a week later.

Various Church leaders and other well wishers have visited the church and the shrine to express sympathy and solidarity with the local Catholic community.

Bishop Gerald Almeida of Jabalpur called on the local Christian community to remain calm and not to let such incidents provoke them. Bishop Almeida’s call came after his visit to the desecrated shrine.
