Church dilemma help please :)!

hi I have a dilemma that is this : I still going to my old baptist church and they don’t know I have been going to a new catholic church and I don’t want to tell them yet , the baptist church is a bit smaller and everyone knows everyone and they all like me and the sermons are okay but I go out to Sunday school for teens which I enjoy and then you have tea and food after the service and at the catholic church they are a few young people I’ve seen and it’s more traditional and more time in prayer thus feeling more spiritually connected but I havnt meet any regulars and I don’t see anyone going for coffee afterwards and not many say hi apart from make the sign of peace bit and its the only Church I can get to but i also believe what the church teaches ect so I don’t know what to do ?

I sympathize with your plight – I’m sure you’re not the only one in that situation. Pray to the Lord for guidance and courage. Perhaps you could form a youth? group at your church or something similar?
I don’t know if there is another parish near you, but you might try another one that’s close to you if possible. Parish life can be very different from one to another – even those right down the street.

Hi Chuck,

Not to put you on the spot, but why do you want to be Catholic? Have you ever made a list of what you believe to be true about the Catholic Church?

Hi I know I want to be catholic and I know I have a choice to make and I know it’s not just about the people it’s about your belief etc aswell so I’m going to try and meet some regulars at the catholic church so I can get talking to people etc cuz I do see people who know eachother ect it will just take time , and I will tell my old baptist church eventually an try do have other youth activitys within the area in other church’s so I take a look at that 🙂
 
I think I will go to mass tomorrow morning and meet some regulars and then go to the catholic church on saturday and Sunday and try and meet people there and try and sit away from the mothers at the back maybe sit by some youths if there is any or other adults ?
Unless anyone alse has any other ideas ?

Hey Chuck! I see you’re a teenager like me. I hope you join the Church. A lot of non-Catholics just don’t know or chose to not believe in all of the powerful and beautiful stuff the Church does! It’s amazing. The best thing for you to do is to get to know the priest. If you know the priest, you’ll be golden. A lot of my friends are seminarians, practicing priests, and priests. Besides that, there are awesome sacraments. There are two that are amazingly awesome, in my opinion. 1. The Eucharist. It is the REAL body and blood of THE Jesus Christ!! 👍 2. Confessions. Just think about this. If you sin, you can go to a priest, who takes Jesus’ place, and relieve yourself of allllllll of your sins!!! That is awesome. I would also recommend reading the Catholic Catechism.

Also… Pray!! Especially the Rosary. Pray to the Holy Trinity! Just do it all man!

Have you looked into the RCIA classes? You’ll get to meet people there. I know it is hard to meet teens. I have two teenage sons who are very active in the Church. Be sure to check out the Sunday bulletin. There will be activities you can participate in where you’ll meet people too.

Our Church used to have a once a month after Mass brunch. But it only seemed to attract the older folks. But remember… join the Church for the FAITH not for the PEOPLE. 😉
 
Thanks vsedriver that’s exactly what I was thinking its about the faith rather than the people so I know I want to be apart the church but it’s hard you know especially if I don’t have any friends or meet teens cuz at the moment I feel on all my own. ! Yes I will enquire about RCIA on Sunday and check the bulletin :). Thanks chuck

I dunno how old you guys are but there is a univeristy right up the road from my parish with a pretty thriving Catholic Life Center.

People from our parish cook lunch - i’m talking like BBQ ribs and mashed potatoes and good food like that - every day for the students. The kids go to Mass at the Catholic Center at noon, then sit around a large table and eat lunch. The Catholic center has a full time priest and a library, pool table, big screen TV where they run movies at night. I hit the Mass there once in a blue moon and somtimes browse their library as they have 2500 books, and there are always kids hanging out, doing homework or just drinking coffee, reading a book, whatever.

I think you get the idea. If you are college age, or close to it, you may want to check out the local universities to see if they have a Catholic Center.
