Church Fathers Commentaries

Hello,

I have two Questions:

In the Scholastic schools of the 12th Century students use to at times compile scriptural commentaries of the Church Fathers &
put it into one book. St. Thomas did this in his “Aurea Cantena”

Question 1:
Does anyone know of any other books or book series written that
compile all the scriptural commentary by the Church Fathers other than the ones posted below ?

The two I know of is the:
“Ancient Scripture Commentary”-Short series
“Aurea Cantena”-St. Thomas Aquinas

Question 2:
Are there any books that have compiled the scriptural commentaries of the 33 Church Doctors?
 
Jurgens wrote a 3 volume set titled, Faith of the Early Fathers, that is a wonderful compendium of the teachings of the early Church.

I’ll bet if you send a PM to Copland, you’ll get a wealth of information.
 
By “Ancient Scripture Commentary” I assume you mean the Ancient Christian Commentary published by InterVarsity Press? That is the best one available today (and I wouldn’t say it’s “short” - it is over 25 volumes!). The only other option I know of is the Biblia Clerus software offered by the Vatican; it is quite comprehensive and everything is indexed to the Scriptural passages.

I’ve used both in my own research and study and found them to be quite useful.

By the way I put together a commentary on Jonah and part of Revelation with tons and tons of citations from the Church Fathers, you will find them among the link that I gave, they have the most quotes from the Fathers than any other commentary there is.
 
My favorite line by line printed commentaries are the Catena Aurea (which translates as "the golden chain) and Cornelius a Lapide’s commentaries, which likewise are based on the Fathers. Unfortunately, most of them are still only in Latin, but there is a good multi-volume translation of his New Testament set titled "The Great Commentary of Cornelius a Lapide. Lapide was a scholarly Catholic priest. Perhaps this is in a local library where you can consult it. It was published 100 years ago, but I was able to get it one time as a used publication.

there is a bible program here with the lapide commentary, haydock commentary a catholic commentary on holy scripture, all of which quote church fathers on scripture, also here is st Thomas catena, and another churh father commentary.
