Church History Book -- Question!

A while ago I remember someone recommending a book to people here on the CA Forums and I’m asking you to help me find its author and title! The author researched Church history and in writing the book, converted to Catholicism. His research ultimately convinced him of something, I don’t know what. This is about all I remember about the said book. Help me out? If you know any other great books please don’t hesitate to mention it.

Cardinal Henry Newman researched Church History and converted to Catholicism.

  2. History of Christendom series by Warren H Carroll
  3. The History of the Church - a complete course. This is part of the didache series of texts and can be viewed at

    This book is an overview from the Acts of the Apostles to the fall of the western Roman Empire
 
Perhaps it is one of those. I seem to remember a certain book that someone was raving about and the fact that this author (I think) went into doing his research trying to disprove Catholicism, ended up finding the Church in Her Spendor.

The book you’re thinking about is probably the first one the previous poster alluded to: John Cardinal Newman’s “The Development of Christian Doctrine.” Newman was an Anglican bishop who started out trying to prove from history that the Catholic Church couldn’t possibly be the Church that Christ founded. The further back he went, however, the more evident it was that he was wrong. He ended up converting, being ordained, becoming a bishop, and then a Cardinal.

I know that it was not Newman.
As for the others…I haven’t a clue. 😦
