With all of the discussion on various threads about issues around the Reformation, particularly Luther, Canon of the Bible, Conflicts and Misunderstandings about the Papacy and many other things, I would like to suggest a new area of discussion on Church History.

We could discuss issues that cross threads and about the personalities of the people involved. For example there is a lot of misunderstanding about Luther while forgetting about the influence of the Calvinists, Mennonites, Baptists, etc. on Protestant thought and on Catholic reaction as well as the reaction to that reaction, politics of the times…

Any takers?

Actually, I think a much more relevant forum would be Early Church History. This could focus on the Early church from A.D. 1 through say 1000 and focus on the the Early Church practices and doctrine which is where the real basis for determining correct Theology.

Might be too voluminous, Harri. How about selecting ANY character or a number of characters from ANY period and then we go from there…and progress ‘down’ through history if you like? Otherwise the diverseness of theological thought will disintergrate your thread.

I was fishing for a topic that would cover all of the scattered threads that appear in this forum that involve questions of historical development.

I agree that trying to cover the whole gamut of history in one thread is too big a chunk to chew, thus the idea of taking a particular aspect or character is good.

I guess my message is for the forum administration for a block or sub-block under which we can post items requiring discussion of the history.

I am happy with the suggestion of Ignatius to spend some time on Patristics. It is truly an important topic and tracing the developments that lead to the Great Schism in the 11th century is certainly interesting.

Just looking for a “cubbyhole” to put related threads into.

May we enquire in peace.
