On Domus Dei there is a post I came across about the renovation of St. Jane de Chantal Church. The architect that did the work uses Vatican II to back up his work. One thing the architect says is, "Lessened importance was given to adoration, the sanctuary, and historical affection of gross monumentality. The new emphasis became ‘assembly as celebrant’.” Really?!?! Show me where it said that.

In the article there is a link to the architect’s site where their work is defended by using Vatican II.
 
The concept of a “Church on the round” has been around for a lot longer that Vatican II. Several Medieval churches are built as such, in imitation of the Church of the Holy Sepucre in Jerusalem (which is a round church, but not a church in the round 😉 )

The National Shrime of the Little Flower is a 1930’s example of the architecture

But the article’s architect’s reason for St. Janes using this form is WAAY off base.
