I see your point, but I don’t think that I would say that the Church in the USA is not part of the church. Just because they have some bad aples, I would not say they are not true. There are many good bishops and priests in the US also.
That’s not what I said. It’s quite true that the forces of evil will not prevail over the Church per scripture, but God never said anything about guranteeing the Church will be active in all parts of the world…

In fact there are places in the world right now where the Church is not active…

You outline the seperatist, bunker-mentality feelings of many “traditonalists” and it’s sad to see.

In any event the region covered by the “traditional bishop” would have to be huge, or they would have to cut costs by meeting in Greyhound Bus terminals, etc.

It would be interesting to see if a “Tridentine Catholic Church” could actually sustain itself if Rome gave the approval. My guess is that it couldn’t, except on a tiny scale…
I agree that you can’t have separate bishops and that the separatist idea is bad, but I also think that the Tridentine should be allowed. I think the Tridentine would probably be pretty popular if it was allowed a little more. Granted, it would not have nearly the favor of the NO mass but I think it would sustain itself, as long as its approved by the church of course.

Do most here feel that this is enough interest in the TLM to have it bursting at the seams in every parish? Our TLM has been in existence for over 10 years and it’s still not bursting at the seams. Not only that, many attendees drive in from other diocese to go to it. If attendence were limited to the locals, I think the amount would drop by at least half. While I think it should be allowed to parishes that show an interest, I don’t think it should be forced on parishes where there is no interest. Do others really think it should? Just curious…
If attendance to the “tlm” was growing by leaps and bounds throughout the Church (it is in a few insignificant areas) it might be taken just a bit more seriously…

This is my feeling about the situation. I think it could grow a little more if people could talk about it’s positives without bashing the mass that many grew up with. Also, it might help if people arranged for petitions for it rather than just sending letters to the bishop telling him he must do it! This is often the tactic taken in our diocese and I think it would be far more helpful to a bishop to see the numbers that are actually interested in it. Even our former liberal bishop allowed it when he saw there was actually a number of people interested and the pastor approached him in a more respectful manor than some are today. Still, I don’t see that the interest now would support more than maybe one more parish at this time.

Its kind of tough for it to grow when it is not allowed to grow. Most bishops only allow it in one parish or they don’t allow it at all. I think that it should be allowed much more.

OK, now. I’d like to suggest that we become a little more pro-active than reactive. Those of you who have a TLM in your area, how did you gain the indult? In our diocese, our pastor started by asking for permission to say the Pauline Mass in Latin. After he showed that there was an interest in this kind of mass he asked for and gained the indult. I can’t remember if there was a petition or not but I think the priest in the neighboring diocese did this to show there was an interest. I don’t think he ever asked for the Pauline Mass in Latin. I think he just showed that there was an interest.

Then if they allow it, they allow it at 6:00 AM in the mourning and in some Chapel in Yeehaw Juction.

So much speculation and so little action. Ours is at 12:30 PM! However, depending on the interest, I could see a priest putting it in a less active time slot.
