Anyways, if any of you want to know anything about the Church of Christ or the Restoration Movement, doctrines or practices or anything, I can be your inside source! 😃
Hi Jon, what has your research come up with concerning the christian connection movement’s relationships to the restoration movement?

It is interesting that this verse is used as well by the Inglesia ni Cristo (literally, Church of Christ). The INC is in no way related to the CoC, but they use that same passage to validate their claim.
I agree. Those that use Romans 16:16 do refer to it out of context, and it does become misleading. It’s always going to be a few or a few too many that people will remember what they’ve said instead of truly getting the entire truth and a clear understanding.

The Christian Connection was a uniting of movements founded by James O’Kelley (Methodist Episcopal), Barton W. Stone (Presbyterian), Abner Smith and Elias Jones (both Baptist). These guys shared the similar view that christians should not use denominational names and should only use the name christian. The uniting of these groups was called the Christian Connection. Alexander Campbell and Barton W. Stone also united their movements and began the Restoration Movement. Churches in the Restoration Movement today will go by “Church of Christ”, or “Christian Church”.

Sola Scriptura. That doctrine defines RM churches. More precisely, only the New Testament. Some do not use musical instruments in their worship because the Bible gives no authority to (of course it does in the Old Testament, but since that was the old law, it doesn’t count to them, however Jesus didn’t come to abolish the old law, he came to fulfill it). Some do not believe in having sunday school because it never mentions sunday school in the Bible. Some are very conservative with these beliefs, while others aren’t as strict. “Speaking where the Bible speaks and silent where the Bible is silent” is a motto used frequently by RM churches.

as far as the OT and NT are concerned I will reply with this. We are bound to the NT law, but learn from the OT. When Christ died the OT law was nailed to the cross. I sometimes use the analogy of a textbook you may use in class. It’s okay to reference the 7th edition and learn from it, but the tests the professor gives will come from the 9th edition, and so from there that is what you’ll be expected to learn from. If that makes any sense. As far as the other aboved mentioned things, well I cannot speak on those. Every church is faced with its own issues. I will conclude that I do deny the fact that the CoC started during the RM movement, again we also hold claim that the Church of Christ began in a.d 33 and founded by Jesus Christ. that is our teaching. period.
