The whole thing is absurd. There shouldn’t be either female priests or bishops. It’s the very stumbling block toward unity that will end up dividing and melting down the ACNA and other attempts toward a more conservative brand. Women’s ordination is an abomination toward ecumenism with the Orthodox or Catholics. Nobody with apostolically valid communions who is worth his salt takes any body seriously who condoned W.O. It’s going to be the bane of Duncan and his cronies…

Gurney, I wish that you’d resolve your ambivalence one way or the other. Found your own church–in CA, you shouldn’t have any trouble.

A lot of devout Christians don’t buy your woman-man dichotomies regarding fixed gender roles. My husband would be insulted by it as he had every bit as much of that mystical life-giving role as I did.

The Old Testament is filled with examples of God speaking as a mother to the Israelites.

I’m UU, so I don’t care. You can all fight it out. As with women in so many other roles, by the time y’all finish hashing it out, we will have taken over everything anyway.

I don’t know where the RCC will end up, but if it continues its current trajectory, it will become underserved, underfunded, with a large nominal membership characterized by indifference, with a noisy enfeebled minority BXVI predicted it would be.

Interestingly, the largest new “denomination” in the US consists of ex-Catholics, who represent fully 1/3 of all Catholics.

Great posts here, Gurney. As always. It’s amazing how defending what the Church has always known to be true will draw so much fire. But being on the side of 20 centuries of brilliant theologians - and the universal, unwavering teaching of the Church - it’s a great place to be, isn’t it?

Only if our Lord wills it. And if He does, we know that He is merely separating the wheat from the tares and the sheep from the wolves.

I was an Anglican, once. I toyed with converting to the RCC, but fortunately never did. That appears to be where Gurney is heading.
