Church of Scotland marriage

Can anyone help answer my question regarding the validity of Church of Scotland marriage in the eyes of the Catholic Church. I was baptised Catholic but not confirmed, whereas my partner was baptised Church of Scotland and also not confirmed. We both recently became married within the Church of Scotland but the Church of Scotland itself does not view marriage as a sacrament and I was wondering how the Catholic Church would view our marriage, as either valid or putative?

It would depend on whether you got a dispensation to marry outside of the Catholic Church.

There are quite a few people on this forum that know the laws on this in and out. Someone else can give you specifics.

In your situation, I’d talk to a priest to make sure the marriage is valid.

You were baptized catholic then you are catholic and as such are bond by cannon Law.
That said if you did not receive premission to marry outside the Church is is not considered a valid marriage. I most cases a simple convalidation by your parish preist can fix this issue. Seeing as you were not confirmed either. More maybe needed.

not enough info, but in general, a Catholic who marries outside the Catholic Church, that is, who disregards Catholic canon law on marriage, is not validly married. Confirmation has nothing to do with it. We don’t know if you got the requisite dispensation to marry a non-Catholic, to marry in his church etc. so we cannot answer to your specific situation. See your Catholic pastor for counsel that applies to you personally. Assuming neither of you has been married before it is a relatively simple matter to convalidate the marriage so the Catholic party can return to the other sacraments.
