Church Releases Swine Flu Precaution Guidelines

Our local Parish released the following guidelines from the Bishop concerning the receiving of the Sacraments during Mass. This memo pertains to the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, NY. The attached memo was distributed by a Queens Parish. As promised previously, more information would be provided as it became available. Please Note: This policy is not optional. The statement from the Bishop asks all parishes in Brooklyn and Queens to “refrain” from given the Blessed Sacrament - consecrated wine.

While this post is much better than the sensationalistic one that previously was made, its title is still misleading and tending toward hype. The title should read “Brooklyn Diocese Releases Swine Flu Precaution Guidelines,” rather than “Church Releases…” as the Church has released no such guidelines, especially not the Holy See. The article reports that one bishop in one diocese has done so, which is quite a different thing. Even though a few other bishops may also have also issued such a policy, this does not constitute “the Church.”

Sorry guys the title of the thread is the exactly the same as the title “in” the memo.

Modifying terms like “releases” and “guidlines” are not misleading terms especially when they pertain to the memo that I included for the community to prevent any confusion.

Ok - for “church” perhaps I could have used a more precise word meaning. But you’ll still have to read the post for locations, times et cetera and perhaps more down. Common sense tells us that.

Please, people, let’s not focus on the wording of the thread’s title and just discuss the topic regarding guidelines for this diocese.

I would also note that existing threads concerning the H1N1 virus as it pertains to reception of the Eucharist and other related issues are available in the L&S forum. A simple search should bring them up.

I had asked members to help it along; that too was confusing to some. What that meant was to add information (if they wish) or details which is beneficial to the community at large.

This is too an important topic. It is for the benefit and safety of everyone.

But the title WAS misleading, as the Church has not issued any policy; the thread is about a single diocese. Since this important distinction was pointed out in the last thread, and you chose to ignore it when naming this thread, it is my opinion that this thread’s title was deliberately misleading.
