Some can be quite funny, especially some of the more Evangelical Churches. Here in suburban Atlanta, the advertisements, slogans and even the Church names themselves can be downright hilarious.

One Church has a sign which reads “Greater Deliverance Ministries - We Teach Jesus.” I thought it was a bit presumptious to assume to be teaching Jesus. 😉

Another Church puts those lawn signs all over town every Friday which say “Where Church meets Rock and Roll”

Recently a Church here has been advertising “Just Say No to Religion” with the word Religion with a circle around it and a slash through it like a traffic sign.

Anyone else got any good ones? Are we allowed to post pictures here on CAF?

Timothy, CAF members can post images once they reach the status of new member, which you have long ago reached. I think there are limits on size that can be posted, but I don’t know the details.

Is this the “Just Say No” sign you mentioned, which is the work of Eagle Pointe Church? Its certainly attention-getting (which is half the battle), although I am not sure it would make me want to attend.

This is probably my favorite sign, a church billboard from the 2008 US presidential campaign.
(click photo to make it bigger)

There’s a Protestant Church near my house that has catchy little phrases on it’s sign (they change daily) one example: “what’s missing in this word: CH_ _ CH? Answer: U R”

“If you want to meet Jesus, text while driving”

“Open between Christmas and Easter”

I saw one in front of a Presbyterian church that read “God’s last name is not d-mn!”

I loved the billboards that were on the highway a few years ago with such things as, “‘Don’t make Me come down there!’—God,” and “‘Keep using My Name in vain, I’ll make rush hour longer’–God.”

“Christ is not here, for he is risen”
However i thought it was funny that obviously a Catholic from my parish (that has a sense of humour) had stuck underneath it “However, Christ will be at St John Fishers Catholic Church, every sunday at 10am”.

It’s not that funny looking back at it, but i lol’d at the time :o

We actually have a small plaque with this on it hanging in our Living Room. I still get a smile when looking at it.

For me the funniest or most surprising sign was one posted just as you came into town and was for the Church of Christ. It read (and I am not kidding):
Hillsboro
Church of Christ
(Christian)

I remember thinking at the time, what a funny and sad commentary that was - that a "Church of Christ would have to specify that it is Christian…

Peace
James

Hey Tim,
Not a church sign, but when I was in college, the *Church’s Fried Chicken *
restaurant near campus had on their sign next to a picture of an ice cream treat:
“Worship this sundae at Church’s”

I’ve found this one:see below. (Click to enlarge!)

That’s my absolute favourite:
from Canada:
see below!

The one that comes to mind read, ‘Don’t wait on six strong men to have to carry you in.’

Not a sign, and I didn’t see it, but the priest giving a talk I recently listened to on tithing shared a funny and appropriate bumper sticker:

“If you love Jesus, tithe (anyone can honk)”

😃

this one is REAL popular with Baptists:

Your Choice for Eternity: Smoking or Non-Smoking?😃

this is not hilarious, the opposite, but for reasons of my own I wanted to walk the stations after Mass outside at the Basilica. I meditate frequently at one of my favorites, the first on the left as I face my parking spot. They have done some repairs to the walking path so there is a sign to “take care on the rough pavement”. on the other side of the path in front of the station is “Jesus Falls the First Time” in English and Spanish.

I remember one evangelical church in a town near me who put signs all through out the town saying, “Cancer stinks, pray for a miracle!” It was absolutely outrageous! As if a cancer patient who doesn’t receive a “miracle” didn’t pray hard enough!

there is a community church that changes their sign weekly, one week it read, Lost? try GPS. God’s Plan of Salvation.

And another one. ATM inside. Atonement, Temperance, Mercy.

I passed a Friend’s Church a while back…sign read…“Have you ever met a Quaker and they turned out to be a Friend?”
