Does anyone on here read any Church Slavonic, and/or Ukrainian, and/or Russian? I’ve found some instructions on making Lestovki, but they’re in Church Slavonic (I think). I’m looking for someone who’s willing to translate for me.

ICXC + NIKA,
Phillip

Phillip, I’d be interested in buying one once you can read it!

I would be surprised if the instructions were written in Church Slavonic, but could be. Written using Cyrillic or Latinica characters? Any way you could post them for analysis? I’d be happy to try to get you help with translation - just need to see the text.

Peace be with you!

I currently make Lestovki using wooden beads and stringing them up so that they form a ladder. Dr. Alex Roman owns two or three that I’ve made for him. If you’re interested and want a review of my work, as him. 👍

Here are the two pages that, I believe, are in Church Slavonic. It might be Ukrainian… I’m really not sure, I just know it’s some sort of Cyrillic text. 😃

I believe the following page is in Russian, but again I’m not sure.

Thanks for the help.
As far as i know, its just regular Ukrainian. No church slavonic.
See the attch. for church slavonic

Well hopefully it’ll be easier to find someone willing to translate it, if it’s in Ukrainian. That would just make my day. I already found a source for materials to make Lestovki out of felt instead. So hopefully I can get these instructions translated and then start learning and experimenting until I have a product with which I’m satisfied. If/when that happens, I assure you I will start offering them for sale. 😃

I recently found my mothers baptism certificate and it is written in Russian. I asked the local Russian Orthodox priest if he could translate it for me and he said he could so I am going to take it to him soon. If there is a Russian Orthodox church in your area you might try asking him. Just a thought.:byzsoc::crossrc: I am Byzantine catholic and our Mass has some Church Slovanic in the Liturgy but our priest couldnt read it.

All of them are in Russian.

The prayers at the end are in Old Church Slavonic.

Hope this helps.

Russian. Can you post a scan of it?

Russian. Can you post a scan of it?
Vico, I don’t have any scans. All I have are the links that I posted above. I stumbled across them quite by accident, or Providence… 😛

Phillip, why don’t you get in touch with Alex?
I’ve e-mailed Alex, but have yet to hear back from him. I don’t know whether or not he reads Russian. 🤷

Ach! I really hope I can get this translated. I think I can work from the pictures/sketches, but it’d be so much easier if the instructions were translated.

Yes, indeed, Vico. Those are the pages. 😃
Here is the beginning:

How to Make a Ladder
Code:
If decided to make a Ladder, you cannot save this thing for a long time and delay the execution for the enemy has many obstacles to be believe, not wanting validated weapons of the Church.

Tools. It is necessary to make two needle type drawing pens 5 mm wide and 40 - 50 mm long. Find a 5 mm chisel, needle and thread, scissors, and knife.

**Materials.**1. To make a ribbon of leather or leatherette. Width of the tape should be, for men’s Ladder - 15 mm, 12 mm for women, for children 8 - 10 mm. Long pieces of tape should be of a “palm” (24 cm) to elbow [cubit] (48 cm) can be used, and yards [arshin] (72 cm). The total length of piece should be used yards [arshin] (4.2 m). [24 cm = 9.45 inches, 48 cm = 18.9 inches, 72 cm = 28.38 inches, 4.2 m = 165.35 inches]
Code:
  1. To produce sliders for paper prayers, use a wide leather strip of arbitrary length. You can write them yourself, you can use existing tables, making them with copies.100sliderswith the prayer of Jesus *, (women should write"hrishnuju" 6Alleluia, and three great-Remember us, Lord (Master, holy), see table. You can roll-up prayers on wooden sliders in the appropriate lane width. A ladder like this will last longer. Wooden sliders can be made from thin branches of oak or birch. So you must make ready109sliders.

You da man, Vico!!! 👍
Missing translation from the last of Tools is:

Put all this on a clean bench and start working.

Then:
  2. We need the petals. For this purpose on the skin or cardboard circle is represented a 7 cm radius. It is divided into eight parts, four of them are little more than the other four. All this is cut and we get eight petals more on the male Ladder, than those that appear on the women’s. Exactly a godly husband and wife. Petals can be covered with velvet or cloth, embroider beads with diligence. Then along the edges of the petals sheathe with braid, a width of 10 – 15 mm. So we have four petals.
