Church teaching on abortion and ectopic pregnancy?

hello

I would like your opinion regarding ectopic pregnancy choices. If a woman were to go ahead with this pregnancy, she and her fetus could die. Current medical practice is to abort the fetus in order to save the mother, but is this wrong?
If the correct course of action is to go ahead with the pregnancy, how can I justify this approach to a more cynical person who may see it as the needless killing of the mother, fetus or both.
