Church teaching on further human evolution?

What is the Church’s teaching regarding whether humans could further evolve (or possibly devolve)?

I ask this because I am writing a science fiction story metaphorically representing the issue of abortion. In it, over a long period of time, certain people began to devolve into beings with much less intellectual capability.

Would writing this, or something similar, be attacking Church teaching in any way?
 
I think you’re safe. Believing that living organisms change over time to adapt to their environment is perfectly consistent with the Church’s teachings.

PS: Your book sounds very interesting. I hope I will chance to read it some day.
